Mother's Day - Día de la madre
In my country, mothers' day is celebrated today, it is always commemorated on the third Sunday of October.
When I was little and well into my youth, I believed that this day was the same everywhere but no. Then I found out that there are several different days according to each country. Of course, in those distant times, the internet did not exist and satellites were scarce and quite rudimentary, so the news, and fundamentally those that were not current, were not easily accessible to all of us.
Now it is easy to know these things, it is enough to make a query in one of the several search engines and we will immediately know that Mother's Day has multiple dates, even that in many countries it is not even celebrated.
I still have my mother, she is already an 86-year-old woman, although she is still active and very aware of her entire family, even her false daughter who is far away, on the other side of the world in Hong Kong.
Unfortunately, I will only visit her for the cell phone camera, her age and some ailments make us have to take extreme precautions, the famous Chinese virus could wreak havoc on her health and it would be very painful for family members if it is infected through our fault.
I took the photographs that accompany this publication this morning in the Plaza Misericordia, while I was crossing it to go to the bakery. It was early and there were very few people, most walking their dogs.
My wife told me that the statue of tribute to mothers (accompanying the note) was inaugurated when she was in elementary school, right in front of the square where she and also our daughter attended their primary and secondary studies. My son also did kindergarten there but then he had to go to another school since at that time the Misericordia School was still only for girls.
I send a cordial greeting to all mothers, whether or not their day to day depending on where they live. May this day and all the rest be remembered, helped and understood by your children.
En mi país se celebra hoy el día de las madres, siempre se conmemora el tercer domingo de octubre.
Cuando era pequeño y hasta bien entrada mi juventud, creía que este día era el mismo en todas parte pero no. Luego me enteré que hay varios días diferentes según cada país. Por supuesto en aquellos tiempos ya lejanos no existía la internet y los satélites eran escasos y bastante rudimentarios así que las noticias y fundamentalmente las que no eran de actualidad no eran de fácil acceso a todos nosotros.
Ahora es sencillo saber estas cosas, basta hacer una consulta en alguno de los varios buscadores y enseguida sabremos que el día de las madres tiene múltiples fechas, incluso que en muchos países ni siquiera se celebra.
Yo todavía tengo a mi madre, ya es una anciana de 86 años aunque aún se mantiene activa y muy pendiente de toda su familia, incluso de si hija postiza que se encuentra muy lejos, del otro lado del mundo en Hong Kong.
Lamentablemente solo la visitaré por la cámara de los teléfonos celulares, su edad y algunos achaques hace que tengamos que extremar recaudos, el famoso virus chino podría hacer estragos en su salud y sería muy penoso para los miembros de la familia si se contagia por culpa nuestra.
Las fotografías que acompañan esta publicación las tomé esta mañana en la plaza Misericordia, mientras la cruzaba para ir hasta la panadería. Era temprano y había muy pocas personas, la mayoría paseando sus perros.
Mi esposa me contó que la estatua de homenaje a las madres (que acompañan la nota) se inauguró cuando ella estaba en la escuela primaria, justo frente a la plaza donde ella y también nuestra hija cursaron sus estudios primarios y secundarios. También mi hijo hizo el jardín de infantes allí pero luego tuvo que ir a otro colegio ya que en esa época el Colegio Misericordia todavía era solo para niñas.
Les mando un cordial saludo para todas las madres, sea o no su día hoy dependiendo de donde vivan. Que este día y todos los demás sean recordadas, ayudadas y comprendidas por sus hijos.
