A personal project - Un proyecto personal

When I worked for an insurance company doing computer projects, I walked around the exclusive neighborhood of Puerto Madero a lot. I liked to go out at noon and walk through the modernized docks, with beautiful walks, exclusive shops and first-class gastronomy.

Exactly on one of those walks I discovered an antique and exotic furniture store, it was fascinating to visit its large windows and observe artifacts and furniture from other times restored and conditioned with excellent taste, ideal to decorate and enhance any environment.

I noticed a mirror, made entirely of wood with slats of different colors varnished in a dark tone, I found it beautiful and entered the premises to find out its price. To my dismay, it was very expensive, as most of the items that this business offered. But the germ of self-esteem had been planted and I said to myself that I could do something like that.

I always liked working with wood, as a hobby of course, and I firmly set out to do something similar at some point.

I have already done several works on wood, in fact I have published something about it here, if I remember correctly the post I made and where I showed several of my works it is called "a relaxing hobby" or something like that, I do not remember exactly, but if you want to take the trouble to look for it, you are going to see some of the things that I have done. I repeat, like an amateur who never took a course in carpentry. I've only watched a few videos on those platforms that show you how to do things.

The mirror is finally finished and since yesterday it looks in my dining room, I think it looked more or less good and of course it does not have much to do with that of the furniture and decoration store, I did not intend such an achievement but I was satisfied and my wife has liked it, so for me it's a great achievement.

My son came last night, he only happened when he returned from the hospital where he works as a pediatrician, with this Covid-19 issue he does not come much later, he is afraid that we will get it because he is exposed despite all the security measures implemented, but as They had done the weekly test to which he is obliged by his profession, he decided to come and see us for a few moments. I proudly showed him my mirror and he not only congratulated me but asked for one for his home.

So I will continue practicing, I already have some ideas to improve my work, this is it, daily learning and maybe when I retire, I can have some extra income doing something that I like.

Cuando trabajaba para una compañía de seguros haciendo proyectos informáticos, paseaba mucho por el exclusivo barrio de Puerto Madero. Me gustaba salir al mediodía y caminar por los docks modernizados, con bellos paseos, exclusivas tiendas y gastronomía de primer nivel.

Justamente en uno de esos paseos descubrí una tienda de muebles antiguos y exóticos, era fascinante recorrer sus amplias vidrieras y observar artefactos y mobiliario de otras épocas restaurados y acondicionados con excelente gusto, ideales para decorar y realzar cualquier ambiente.

Reparé en un espejo, hecho íntegramente en madera con listones de diferentes colores barnizados en un tono oscuro, me pareció hermoso e ingresé al local para averiguar su cotización. Para mi desazón era muy costoso, como la mayoría de los artículos que ese negocio ofrecía. Pero el germen de la autoestima había sido sembrado y me dije para mí mismo que yo podía hacer algo así.

Siempre me gustó trabajar con la madera, como hobby por supuesto, y me propuse firmemente hacer algo parecido en algún momento.

Ya he hecho varios trabajos en madera, de hecho he publicado aquí algo sobre ello, si mal no recuerdo el post que confeccioné y donde mostré varios de mis trabajos se llama “un pasatiempo relajante” o algo así, ya no lo recuerdo exactamente, pero si se quieren tomar el trabajo de buscarlo, van a ver algunas de las cosas que he hecho. Vuelvo a repetir, como un amateur que jamás tomó un curso de carpintería. Solo he observado algunos videos en esas plataformas que te muestran cómo hacer cosas.

El espejo finalmente está terminado y desde ayer luce en mi comedor, creo que quedó más o menos bien y por supuesto no tiene mucho que ver con el de la tienda de muebles y decoración, no pretendía semejante logro pero quedé satisfecho y a mi esposa le ha gustado, así que para mí es un gran logro.

Mi hijo vino anoche, solo pasaba al volver del hospital donde se desempeña como pediatra, con este tema del Covid-19 no viene mucho últimamente, tiene miedo de que nos contagiemos porque el está expuesto pese a todas las medidas de seguridad implementadas, pero como le habían hecho el test semanal al que está obligado por su profesión, decidió pasar a vernos unos momentos. Le mostré orgullosamente mi espejo y no solamente me felicitó sino que me pidió uno para su hogar.

Así que continuaré practicando, ya tengo algunas ideas para mejorar mi trabajo, esto es así, aprendizaje diario y quizás cuando me jubile, pueda tener algún ingreso extra haciendo algo que me gusta.
