Government Street

P6040025.jpg

Yesterday I took a walk down Government Street, checking out all the businesses which have reopened.

P6040030 2.jpg

Gift shops are open, because... well, junk gifts are very important I guess.

P6040032.jpg

Like that RCAF bag in the window. I thought it would make a great camera bag but my wife insists it would look silly and I wouldn't use it.

P6040042.jpg

Further down the street we come across the Empress... a Grand old hotel and a landmark here in Victoria.

P6040039.jpg

And here is the Legislature building which gives Government street its name.

Gliding Great Blue Heron

glidingHeron.gif

In Beacon Hill Park I saw a Great Blue Heron gliding across the sky, barely moving its wings as it floated on the breeze.

Gargoyle

P6050091.jpeg

A house on my street has a Gargoyle on top of its chimney. I made the first photo a black and white, hoping it might add some drama to the scene.

P6050120.jpeg

Who wouldn't want their own Gargoyle? Don't you want one too?

Globosa Buddleja Flower

P6050126.jpeg

This is a type of butterfly bush. I call it an "orange-ball tree". This unique flowering bush comes from South America.

Grazing Deer

P6050098.jpeg

P6050102.jpeg

I saw this deer today, grazing on the grass. Isn't she a beauty? We have deer everywhere in this town.

Gate

P6050104.jpeg

How many deer are there? Well, there are enough that you might want to build a gate like this to keep the deer out. Of course deer can jump and they can't read so I'm not sure how effect this really is...

detail.jpeg

Did you notice what it says on the sign?

I hope you enjoyed my exploration of the letter G. All photos were taken by me, @keithboone. The Feel Good community was created by @barbara-orenya.

Another @keithboone special!
My wife likes the gargoyle and I like that camera bag.
You please need to tell me how you got that heron photo active like that.
I posted a Jackal Buzzard today and could have also done him like that.

A great post my friend and hope that you guys will enjoy the weekend!

Thank you, very much. I'll tell you about the moving picture... it's a gif file which I made on ezgif.com. That's a free site. What I did was take five or six consecutive shots and crop them all to the same amount. I position the birds head in the center of the crop, then upload all the files to ezgif.com. There are many options for playback speed and so forth. You could make a gif from as few as 2 or 3 files. Check it out and let me know if you have any questions. Have a great weekend!

Right and thank you. I will most definitely go and give this a try.
Good to know, as my camera has a setting for continuous shots.
Think that I will go and take some shots of the old steam loco when it passes here again.
Will let you know and hope that your weekend is also going well.

You didn’t disappoint Keith.😊 Great selections and I love the Blue heron in motion.

Gargoyle is a fantastic one. There is a gargoyle at a cement place here and I would like to have it sitting at the end of the driveway. it would be a great conversation piece even if there would be some raised eyebrows.

Don’t think the deer will read that sign but it’s neat or rad as the hip say.🤣

Glad you liked the selections! I'm not sure if the deer can read or not. They definitely understand traffic lights, no foolin! :-)

Of course the animated Great Blue Heron is great ... just as it's name says 😉 This is a beautiful looking big bird.

I remember I have seen photos of deer in your town in other posts from you, and it is always amazing how close to the people some wild animals get. When I'm on my way for walks early in the morning I can also see deer close to houses sometimes, but these are small villages between meadows, forests and farm fields, so your photos of wild animals in the town are always amazing for me, Keith 😊

Oh yes, I would love to have my own Gargoyle to scare stupid people away from me, but I think one Gargoyle alone wouldn't be enough 😉

That's a cool selection of G words, Keith, and I also love the other photos like these old buildings at the Government Street and the fence and Gate which should keep the deer out.

Have a wonderful and relaxing weekend 😊

Thank you, Johann! These are everyday sights here in Victoria. The herons fly over all the time and the deer roam freely. That deer was on my street yesterday morning. I happy you enjoyed the post :-)

You're very welcome, Keith 🙂
I would love it if I could say the same, that deer in the city are everyday sights ;) Maybe I live too close to the center of the city, but if they came to our house, what reason could I have to leave my home and go into the nature for taking photos of deer if I could take these photos from my balcony? ;) lol
Yes, I enjoyed your post and I wish you a great weekend 🙂

Haha ! another wonderful visit of your town and that ends with a wide smile...🤭 Frankly, Victoria appears more and more to be a charming and pretty town with its beautiful buildings in the tidy Government street and its Grand Old Hotel Empress...!
not to mention the deers that circulate as freely as cats in your wonderful city ...! 😍
I think I would love to live in there, and I would put a sign on my wooden fence on which I would paint these words : Deer welcome

...anyway, they can not read, do they..?

Thank you, Barbara! I hope you can visit some day. I'm not sure if the deer can read or not... they are very smart. Perhaps the sign could say "welcome to eat the red flowers but please save the blue ones". This could be an experiment and then we would know for sure :-)

@barbara-orenya doesn't need to have her Gargoyle...she has her own Gnome, which perfectly does the job 😁 😂

Thank you! I believe you like the animals better than other things, and gargoyles are animals too, right? Hmmm... not sure, but perhaps they are? :-)

You're very welcome @keithboone! I do love animals and, yes, I think we can group Gargoyles in there too..lol. 😊

Government Street still looks quiet, perhaps too early for everyone getting used to sleeping in of late.

Grand Hotel what great architecture, definitely will never beat the Great big heron on wing.

Always fun to visit, perhaps the high fence with notice is more for the two legged deers that may wish to visit, animals will clear that in no time at all!

It did look empty on that street, didn't it? But I think it was just timing because there were in fact people and cars around and the street is busier than I made it look. I'm glad you liked the post, thanks for visiting!

Those deer are beautiful, I'd love to see some in my garden but only if they behave, hope someone's taught them how to read;)

Oh they will behave all right... if that means eating all your flowers! They really love tulips, so plant plenty of those! :-)

Those are some beautiful pictures. Government Street looks like great place to take a stroll. I love the gargoyle. Looks like something out of a movie. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you! Apparently they are closing Government street to car traffic, turning it into a pedestrian mall. That will make it a lot nicer.

Gargoyle is a great G word! And a stroll down Government Street would be such fun. As always your photos are wonderful...all 13 of them! 😂😘
Narrowing it down to 6 is really hard!

Oooops! Is it supposed to be just six photos? I'm going to need to hire an editor! :-) Thanks, Melinda!

I thought it was 6 photos, but @barbara-orenya's post has 13 photos, too!
It must be 6 different alphabet words, so post away! No editing of the number of wonderful photos you share is needed. 😊❤️

It's funny because for my first entry way back at the letter E, I posted six photos and very little text. Then I viewed all these other posts and saw people posting many photos and lots of words so I thought I'd better step up my game a little! :-)

intresting that you could illustrate the word 'Government', hehe!

Gargoyle is a nice entry for me, always love to watch this stuff.

And with the deer you presented me a shiny nice addition to my vocabulary. Never met the word 'Grazing' before. so, thank you!

lol at the 'no deers allowed' tablet. they really cant read, thats a correct observation. I consider the tablet is supposed to work as a mantra... sort of self-assuring magic thing!

Thank you! I guess 'government' was an unusual word for this... glad I could do it without showing any politicians :-)
