Alphabet Hunt Challenge ~ Letter C

avatar

This is my entry in the Alphabet Hunt Challenge by @barbara-orenya. You can read more about the Alphabet Hunt and how to join in HERE!

Here are my six photos for the letter C

Coneheads aka Coneflowers
These are some Conehead flowers that I planted in my garden last summer. They are suppose to be a perennial so I'm hoping that they come back up this year. Coneheads are a type of Echinacea that are drought and heat resistant. The Conehead flower is rich with nectar and they will attract bees and butterflies to your gardens.

Cardinal
Here is a pretty male Cardinal on the fence by the bird feeders. I put safflower seeds in the feeders as the Cardinals love safflower and a lot of other wild birds dislike it. Both the male and female are song birds and may mate for life. They have a very distinct chirp and will usually let me know when the bird feeder needs to be filled.

Crown Vetch
Crown Vetch is a wildflower that I see a lot when I walk along the trails at the parks here. Although it is very pretty, it's considered a very invasive plant/vine. It can grow extremely fast with a spreading root system. I will stick with seeing them along the trails and not in my yard as I'm already tackling other invasive vines in my yard.

Cemetery
This is a photo I took in the cemetery that my parents are interred at. The day that I took this was such a beautiful day and the birds were singing so loudly. I still have my good days and bad days when I think of the people that I love that have passed but I know that they are all in a "good place" and I will see them all again one day.

Chicory
Chicory is a perennial plant that is in the dandelion family. I see it mostly by the roads here. I photographed this Chicory flower that was growing along the road right out in front of my house. The flower is blue but sometimes looks purple-ish. I read that they can sometimes be white or pink which is rare and I've only seen a pink-ish flower a couple of times.

Conowingo Dam
The Conowingo Dam is located in both Harford County, Maryland and Cecil County, Maryland. It is also known as the Conowingo Hydroelectric Generating Station or (as most people around here call it) The Conowingo. They have a visitor center and trails that you can walk. While there you will probably see the Black Vultures and Bald Eagles that live there and the Conowingo is known for. The water was very high on this visit and several flood gates of the Dam were open. They do allow fishing in some areas. When the water isn't so high then you may see people fishing near the Dam. They will sound an alarm when they open a flood gate to alert the people fishing and give them time to exit the water. The last time that I was there I heard the Bald Eagles but they were flying so high that I wasn't able to get a photo. I did see several other water birds though and, of course, the Black Vultures!

Oh, I didn't see the alphabet photo contest yet O.o I'll have to check it out.
Very nice post @deerjay wish we had Cardinals here in No.Cal.
I'm waiting for the local nursery to get in some more cone flowers, going to drop some Echinaceas in the garden this year.
Hope everything is well with you @deerjay have a great week!!

Thank you very much @chromiumone!! I'm doing okay and hope you are also! I do love seeing the Cardinals when they visit the feeder. I'm still uncertain if my conheads will come up. One spot is still bare and that is where a nest of slugs were. The other spots have growth but I'm not entirely certain that it isn't dandelions coming up..lol. I guess time will tell. I think you will like having some in your garden. They attract bees, butterflies and possibly even birds. Great for more photo ops! Hope to see you join the alphabet hunt! 😉 🙂

Thank you so much Melinda!! There is some growth in a couple of the conehead spots so I'm hoping that a couple of them come up at least. I sure do love the Cardinals and wonder if this is the same one from last year. 🐦 💖

Cardinals do stay in the same area year round, so there is a good chance you are seeing the same bird! I will be envious of your coneflowers. I don't have enough sunny spots to grow them here.

I love the Cardinal and the blue of the Chicory - great selection of C's, @deerjay 😊

BTW I know the Chicory flower, but I didn't know that name, which is Zichorie in German, but it is mainly known as "Gemeine Wegwarte" - I know the Chicory or here we name it Chicorée as the salad plant Witloof or Belgian endive 😉

Thanks so much @johannpiber!! I did read that Chicory is an excellent plant and much of it can be edible. Cool to know that it is also known as Belgian endive. I've heard of Chicory coffee but have never tried it. I think the Cardinal may be one that started visiting last year or it's nice to think he is anyway. I loved seeing your castle and other photos for C! It's been fun seeing what other people find for the alphabet. 💖

You're most welcome @deerjay 🙂
I have also heard of the coffee, but I have also never tried it, but I like the Chicorée salad ;)

This challenge is really big fun, I'm even learning more English words by searching for things and seeing what the others show in their posts 😉

Have a great day and take care.

You got a beautiful shot of the coneheads Dee. Your selections for “C” are great.

Peaceful cemetery where your parents are interred. I know How you feel. There will always be sad days thinking of the people who have gone on before. 💖

Awe..thank you so much @barbara-orenya!! I know what you mean about those connection issues. Probably a lot more people on their computers with being indoors so much. I'm glad you were able to get back on and found me and anyone else that posted in those last couple of days. 😉 💕
