Today, there are many arguments on the importance of education. Most of these arguments are based on real life experiences that tend to ridicule education and its importance to society.

Education is first for self improvement and then for social benefit. Being educated makes one enlightened and fit for society.

It is believed that when one is educated, he tends to do things in more acceptable manner than when one is not.

So it is believed that to be a responsible person and a part of the society, you need to be educated first.

This also gives you opportunity to be a part of decision makers. Those in politics are mostly educated, at least they can read and write.

In the case of Nigeria, those who can't speak or write in English can only be a shadow of those who can.

Orality is part of being a politician in Nigeria and to do that, you must master English language or else, you will be disgraced publicly.

That being said, today, education seems to be a shadow of itself. While it is first for self development, it's also a means to live a good life. With education, comes opportunity to be employed or be an employer of labour.

Being educated takes you a step ahead of the auxiliaries. It puts you in a better place away from physical stress like those who did not go to school.

Unfortunately, there are no much jobs out there for many graduates to do. Those employers only employ those they can exploit their labour powers due to the first fact which is 'no job'. This raises question of whether education truly worth the stress and time it consume.

Those who did not go to school somehow make it more in life. Even those who are more learned seem to be working for those who had little education.

Amazingly, the society also praises non educational activities. The showbiz of Big Brother Naija, Talent Hunts, Project Fame and the rest seem to reward winners with millions of money ahead of educational debates with computer, books or 100 thousand naira (250$) as reward.

It brings the question of whether education is even relevant at all.

Today, people now sing new song, to be an entrepreneur. We are advised to start our own business or learn new skills.

Many graduates today now learn how to be a photographer, fashion designer, Carpenter, stylist, website designer and many more.

With these skills, they are able to start their own businesses and be independent. This reduce the pressure on the labour force as some of them now have employees.

One thing we should know is, irrespective of the skills, an educated person will always stand out! The knowledge will make you do things differently.

With your knowledge, you can draft proposals and go outside the shell of the profession and do great things. The education you have as a background is like a master key that gives you opportunity to open unimaginable doors.

While skills are being praised today, it cannot be compared to the value of education.

In fact, your education will give you big jobs ahead of those who are not educated. So whether we like it or not, education remains the best legacy and asset you can give anyone.
