It will not be out of point to say ugu leaves is the number 1 vegetable that comes to mind when we talk about Nigerian Soups, not just because of its taste but also its health benefits.

Ugu leaves is also known as pumpkin and it is used in cooking ugu Soups, egusi soup, it can also be used along side with water leaf, bitterleaf and so on to make delicious soups.

Ugu leaves have a lot of health benefits to the human body even though most people don't even know about them. It is highly consumed by many because it is a popular specie of vegetable and it also has a great taste.

It help to combat cancer with the aid of the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties which it posses. It is also used to treat convulsions which is an irregular movement of the body due to contractions of muscles in the brain. Traditional medical experts have used ugu leaves to treat convulsion many times. The leaves are grounded in a mini mortal and the juice mixed with coconut water and a pinch of salt. Also, it helps to free the bowels and make it easy to use the toilet.

Ugu can be bought at any Nigerian market or at African stores in countries outside Nigeria. They are often exported in their dry form.
