My Travel Plan was Shattered (or was it)

I kept going back and forth with my travel plans. It was two weeks before my birthday. I had all the time in the world, I thought. Why rush? Who would have thought this pandemic was about to spread all through Nigeria. Early March, we were still managing about 25 cases.
I sat outside, one fine evening, listening to Erica and Bhosa make plans for an alternative accommodation, just incase we were asked to leave school premises.
So you’re paying too, right?
I shook my head because I had decided to travel two days later. I had decided to go to Abuja, and return in a weeks time.
Ah, you want to bring Coro back eh? Erica said hastily
Better stay back there o Bhosa seconded.

I called Arik Air customer service and requested that they suspend my flight ticket. Reported cases had increased to more than 55 at that time and I didn’t want to get stuck in Abuja. Importantly, I wanted to spend my birthday here in Port Harcourt. Thirdly, no one had bothered us about vacating school premises. This particular reason perfected my decision because the environment had become so serene and private, just how I like it!
The next morning, it was announced that interstate travels would temporarily cease as a result of the increasing COVID cases. I didn’t flinch because my environment was too comfortable, well, until later that afternoon when security asked us to leave for the time being. I called Arik Air again and my suspended ticket had doubled in worth. I couldn’t afford to make such expense. I had to fall back to the alternative accommodation plan.

I ended up at my mums’, and this was the best decision I made.
True, it was a little depressing the first two weeks I was here, but I have never been happier. I’ve been most productive, every single day, been on books and online classes, Hiving and daring so many new stuff. The best part is I get to spend quality time with my mum.
