I decided to share this video which I did on the 5th of March 2020, to help those in this wonderful community who wish to learn the guitar. This is an introductory video to the guitar. This video covers 3 aspects that can count as “Overview of the Guitar” and that is 1. What is a guitar, 2. Parts of a Guitar and 3. Identification of Keys and Notes.

What is a guitar?

A guitar is a stringed musical instrument, with a fretted fingerboard and strings played by plucking or strumming with the fingers or a plectrum (guitar pick).

We have acoustic or box guitar, electric lead and bass guitar and electroacoustic or semiacoustic guitar. Let me explain them!

Acoustic or box Guitar: Basically, for playing rhythm and solo; but the sound it produces comes from the sound hole there with the vibration of the strings.

(Electric) Lead Guitar: It is a rhythm and solo instrument like the acoustic guitar but the sound can be amplified with the output jack and the tone or volume buttons.
(Electric) Bass Guitar: For playing low pitched frequencies that corresponds to the bass part in Choir. The sound can also be amplified with the output jack and the tone or volume buttons.
Semi Acoustic/Electro Acoustic Guitar (for bass and lead): An acoustic guitar that is fitted with a pickup; that enables the sound to be amplified.

PARTS OF THE GUITAR

The guitar is made of three main parts: The Head, the Neck and the Body. But, aside these three parts, we have other parts located across the three main parts, they include: Tuning pegs, nut, fret, fretboard, position markers, strings, sound hole, saddle, bridge and scratch plate. The electric guitars possess the pickups, pickup selector switch, tone/volume controls and output jack.

IDENTIFICATION OF KEYS AND NOTES

We have 12 musical notes (they correspond to the Keys)
A – A# or Bb – B – C – C# or Db – D – D# or Eb – E – F – F# or Gb – G – G# or Ab
The 6 strings of a guitar are numbered 1 – 6, from the tiniest to the thickest and they are also named in that order.
1 – E
2 – B
3 – G
4 – D
5 – A
6 – E
To remember this, we can use the notes to form a sentence: Every Body Go Down And Eat
1 – E (every)
2 – B (body)
3 – G (go)
4 – D (down)
5 – A (and)
6 – E (eat)

(The Video explains more about this)
