Stacking Wood for DIY

avatar

Hi fellow DIY fans,

Today I wanted to just share some of the stacks of wood we are holding onto for future DIY uses!

Chipmunking It

We live in a complex that's pretty annoying about storing certain things and we don't have any great space to do it on a big scale. In comes what we have been sneaking in here and there, or at least I have lol.

I'm having more fun getting to do these small DIY projects with various pieces of wood we find if they are in good shape. Some of these are pretty rough looking but that's okay, once things get manipulated and refined they end up looking a heck of a lot better!

I want to figure out what the different kinds of wood are so I can find the trees that they came off of but I don't have enough local knowledge yet. I can only really identify oak trees, birch trees, pine trees and I think maples. There are many others around that have some really nice, solid wood but I can't figure out what they are. Are the elm trees, hemlock or some other kind? I'll figure it out eventually!

I'm stashing some of the longest ones. Not completely sure what I will be doing with them yet but thankfully people don't take them or get rid of them so they are outside drying instead of being in the house taking up space.

These below are ones that I'm really looking forward to using. The old Christmas tree is now all destroyed and waiting for a project. I'm hoping that by the time spring rolls around it will be dry enough to use. It went outside on January 2nd so let's see how long it takes! The wind up there is great and it gets a fair amount of sunlight throughout the day so it should be good.

The other really big branch there is a piece of a hard wooded tree and I want to figure out what kind it is. I know it's not one of the ones I already know, I think. The tree has a unique look to it so I will be looking ones up and trying to figure it out!

Possibilities?

What do you think the possibilities are with these seemingly random pieces of wood? I made a little homemade picture frame a few weeks ago and it came out okay, not the best. I need to figure out more things to do with these and am open to ideas! When I look it up online there aren't really many things. There are millions of popsicle stick projects but not a lot of ones for raw wood like this.
