Steem is the old platform. Due to the hardfork last year every account that was in the steem blockchain is on the Hive blockchain aswell. The Steem account on the Hive Blockchain is "not used" and in case lose your keys, password etc., you can't get access to your account ever.
If you set your recovery account to someone you trust and know, he could help you in the case you lost your keys to recover them. But if it's steem it's most likely you will never get help.
Can you explain why this is not recommended, its ok if you have control of your keys?
