Opinion Series Part 8: Are You Into Halloween Celebrations?
Happy Saturday Hivers!

Only a few days left until All Souls’ Day! This is the time when people visit their departed loved ones at the cemetery to offer prayers and pay their respects. Some even stay overnight at the cemetery to spend more time remembering their loved ones. Since the occasion is fast approaching, we’ll also be seeing more people celebrating Halloween!

When my mom and I visited a store yesterday, I noticed that they already had so many Halloween-related items on display, and most of them were witch-themed. I’m not against celebrating Halloween, but I do disagree with the way some people choose to celebrate it.

I know that we all have different preferences and opinions, and this is just my personal point of view. I’m not comfortable seeing people celebrate Halloween in a way that seems to glorify or invite Satan. I’m talking about costumes that are Satan-themed, the music, and even the overall atmosphere of the venue. Sometimes, it feels like the celebration is all about honoring the devil.
For me, there are still ways to celebrate Halloween and have fun without making Satan the center of the celebration. We can enjoy the occasion in a more positive way without embracing anything that glorifies evil. Maybe some people might find that boring, and I respect that everyone has their own preferences. But personally, I just don’t feel comfortable with celebrations that seem to revolve around the devil. I believe we can still enjoy Halloween without making it all about that.

There was one time when someone invited me to a Halloween party and even suggested a costume for me to wear, but I politely declined. Honestly, I’m not really into celebrating Halloween in the first place. I can’t even remember a time when I actually participated in a Halloween celebration. I’d rather spend my time doing something that genuinely sparks my interest than attend a party where the whole atmosphere feels dark and demonic to me. I know everyone has their own preferences, and I respect that, but personally, I’d rather engage in activities that align with my interests and make me feel comfortable.

At the end of the day, we all have our own choices, and I respect that. I’m not here to judge anyone for how they celebrate Halloween. I just know what I’m comfortable with and what I prefer to stay away from. For me, having fun doesn’t always mean joining parties or following what others do. I’d rather spend my time doing things that I enjoy and make me feel at peace. After all, we can enjoy life in our own ways without having to do things that don’t feel right to us.

Me too. Diko ganahan mag tan aw sa uban ng mag suot ug mga pang horror.
Murag nag invite ug devil.
I don't do Halloween either! I prefer to keep my energy and life in a higher vibe than what it is celebrated for. Peace any day for me!
Visiting the cemetery to pay our respects to our departed loved ones is more than enough.
I would have to agree!
I hear you. We have never celebrated Halloween in our home. And I believe it is the same for many of us from this side of the country.
It should just be like any other normal day, without celebrations, just offering prayers for our departed loved ones and taking a moment to remember them.
