Mexican Murals - A Flaming Child [CCC's Street Art Contest #9]

(Edited)

Once again there is a CCC Street Art Contest out there, and once again I want to submit a mural from Mexico City. Just to recap, this weekly contest on the StreetArt Community has nice prices to win for those who submit amazing wall paintings. So far we don't have too many participants, but it's still fun to see all the cool submissions from different places. Some of them are more graffiti like, others... are simply mind-blowing.

A Huge Face of a Kid

Regina street is one of the few pedestrian streets in the Center of Mexico City. It's located not far from the metro station Isabel la Católica, and due to its low-key nature of its cafes and restaurants the ideal site for amazing murals. Right next to La Familia Burrón and the Sacred Condiments, I posted about only two weeks ago, is this wall with the image of a little kid - painted very big.

He is painted in a highly realistic style, which looks especially beautiful on his short cropped hair, with a bit of skin shining through. His gaze is directed upwards, possibly at someone returning his look from the taller wall next to him - though there's no one painted onto it.

Interesting Details

All around the child there are what look like gem stones floating in the air, as well as flames circling on the periphery. A closer look also reveals an interesting feature of his scarf: it's printed with an old cartoon strip of Felix the Cat. Luckily I got to take a shot of it with the door closed, and the image completed:

The Artists: sef.01 and hadok94

This time it was quite easy to identify the two muralists behind this spectacular image. One is known as sef.01, a Peruvian muralist known for gigantic paintings, mainly of children, in photo-realistic style. The other one is hadok94, also from Peru, who was responsible for the impressive flames, which seem to decorate many of his works.
