Lunch At The Dracula Daneș Domain

It's been a while since my last trip anywhere. The pandemic forced lockdown made impossible and also dangerous to travel. The state of alert that came after the lockdown gave travelers some possibilities but since most of the hotels and restaurants were closed, not much happened as far as tourism is concerned.

Since then restaurants are allowed to open under certain circumstances, meaning closed spaces remain unattended but terraces can host clients which is a bit of a fresh air for the catering industry, even though it's maybe half the capacity they used to. Hotels were open already, so let's hope tourists will come as well.

Yesterday I had the opportunity to visit the Dracula Daneș Domain, which is quite famous for a very good reason. It is very close to the medieval town Sighisoara and only 125 km away from Brasov. It's a wonderful place that offers quite a lot of entertaining possibilities and adventures for all categories. There's a huge restaurant there, accommodation, horses, swimming pool, playground for kids and there is a museum as well. Today I'm going to show you the restaurant and the food and stay tuned as the rest is coming soon.

Because this is an equitation center, at the entrance guests are welcomed by these white, horse shaped iron flower holders.

The ground floor gives home to the restaurant, above there are the hotel rooms and on the light, the covered terrace, which is a blessing during hot summer days and especially now when only the terraces are allowed to serve clients.

As it is required, every necessary measure is taken to protect visitors from getting infected. Tables are 2m apart from each others and customers are not allowed to move the chairs or tables.

The terrace is surrounded by a creek and a lot of green, which makes your staying more refreshing and enjoyable.

Printed menus are history, this pandemic has changed our life forever. There's a big board where the menu is listed, and there's also a QR code on each table you can scan and get the updated menu. It's the best way to avoid touching the same paper or laminated menu by hundreds of people.

They are serving a great variety of dishes, traditional and new as well, for every taste. Prices are reasonable I'd say.

IMG_20200613_142434a.jpg

This is the traditional tripe soup with sour cream, which was once the soup of the poor, now it's almost the most expensive on the menu. It's a delicious soup but it's not for everyone. After running a search for this article I found out that it's common worldwide, however in some countries they prefer stew instead of soup. I know in Hungary the stew is common, the soup not so much. I've never had tripe stew but it can't be bad. Maybe next time I go to Hungary I'll try the stew. You can buy tripe ready in the supermarket but the truth is, it's not easy to cook tripe because of the smell. (The bowl was full by the way but I was so hungry that I forgot to take photos.)

This is breaded chicken breast with French fries, no surprise here, it was excellent.

IMG_20200613_143736a.jpg

This is called Palermo Slice, it's breaded chicken breast with melted cheese and ham om top, served with rustic potatoes. This was also very good.

IMG_20200613_143742a.jpg

Roasted pork with French fries. Because the pork was rolled, the outside was well done, the inside more like medium rare.

IMG_20200613_143753a.jpg

Perch with rustic potatoes and lemon.

All the dishes were great, no one complained about the quality. They have a great variety of salads and pickles as well if you like those with your main course.

IMG_20200613_143759a.jpg

I had this fresh vegetable salad as I like my vegetables fresh.

IMG_20200613_151851a.jpg

This was the highlight of the lunch, chocolate cake, served with a mint leave, not that there was any room for it in my stomach, but I've heard it's good. It was indeed good but not exactly for my taste as this was too creamy for me, but still good.

IMG_20200613_151856a.jpg

This is definitely a lovely place that worth visiting, even if you are just passing through, you should stop and have lunch or dinner. The waiters are well trained, polite and respectful.

This is the first part of my series, stay tuned for the rest as it worth it. Next I'm going to show you the park, the carriage museum, the stalls and the horses.
