From the Language of Food to the Dialect of Burgers 🍔 #DashOutSunday
Food is a universal language. And sandwiches are a common varying dialect of that language. They come in all shapes and sizes, with many different types of toppings, condiments and secret additions. All to form the ultimate stacked combination of the food pyramid that you can hold up in your hands. One of the staples of this concept is the burger and this Sunday we made our variant of that exact archetype of sandwich.
At first I invited my sister and her boyfriend over, because she was grilling me for a while to invite her for food. But word got out fast and my parents where on the list soon after. So we started prepping for 6 people. I usually don't have a fixed recipe for what goes on the burger, so we had a look around and decided this time we'd have sliced pickles, bacon and of course the burger as the main stackable items. Mayo, curry sauce and my homemade chili sauce would be the star condiments. My sister also found us some ciabatta bread for the buns, so that was nice and fancy.
DASH OUT
First I prepared the minced meat. I had about 1 kg of minced meat, which is about 2 fairies and a leprechaun converted to the Imperial system. According to my religion of the order of the garlic clove, I had to add a nice percentage of garlic, obviously. Also some paprika powder and chili pepper powder. And if you're asking where the salt is, salt comes on the patties when you fry or grill them. Never put salt in the minced meat mixture beforehand, because that draws too much moisture out of the meat making it dry. Now you know how to get juicy burgers. :)
After it sat in the fridge for a while to take in that flavor, it was time to form the patties.
While that was happening, I fried the bacon.
When the guests arrived we somehow decided that tomatoes and a fried egg would also go nice on the burgers, so they bought that as well.
Chef @tanjakolader also made an amazing homemade garlic butter mix with garlic, butter and broad leaf thyme from our garden. This was spread on the buns before we grilled them in a pan. Forget to take pictures of those though. My mom also brought me a huge plastic bag of more spinach from their garden, which is awesome to use for many different recipes, especially breakfast.
Chopping up the pickles and tomatoes was also part of the culinary ritual.
I fried the eggs a bit nonchalantly. 😅
Finally after all that preparation it was time to fry the patties in the bacon fat we saved and construct the ultimate sandwich.
With our bellies full we had a few discussion on life, politics and the current situation in the country. And then it was time for the guests to leave before the curfew of 7PM went in effect.

Yes you did that 😂
I didn't realize about the salt drawing out the moisture bu it makes sense. I shall remember this.
At first I was like dafuq this Indian negro talking about, then I went and reminded myself what the "Imperial system" was.... you forget a lot of words living here .
Lol, while the whole world works with the simple metric system, the usa practices measuring voodoo with the imperial system.

Yeah yum yum, except for the pickles...When I get back to Melbs, I am going to make me the veggo version of that so can you get @tanjakolader to send me some of her garlic butter mix please? 🤣
Hahahaha don't you like pickles in general or just on burgers? I can eat those anytime and they don't even need to be a topping 😂
Looking forward to the veggo version by the way and tell me when @chocolatescorpi 👍

Take away the spicy accessories and you have a sandwich fit for an American breakfast, but 'Mericans like to put bacon on their bacon where the bacon used to be. Nice work chef, and now that the weekend long lockdown is over, it's time for us to get out to the supermarket so we can make some fresh food today.

Lol, bacon-ception. This past weekend we had to cook in the microwave, because our gas ran out precisely when the lockdown had started Friday night.
Somehow we managed though.
Thanks for the feature @justinparke.
