Casualty Saturday

With the amount of plants I kill this could probably become a very popular series :p
I just usually don't show them. I pick the dead bodies and throw the away. But today... ohhh.. today was like they decided to serve me "Mass dying day".

I have been watering them all a few days ago and they were fine. And today boom!

First up:
Notocactus Ottonis - DEAD!

What Happened?
I don't know. I have never seen cactus gone this dark. What's more, few days ago it was fine and I even noticed a small flower bud at the top.

I was showing it in this post. See? It was fine :)

I still have that small one and it better not die on me!

Next we have one that I really like!
Adromischus festivus - Most likely DEAD.

My little pride and joy among succulents. Luckily I accidently broke a leaf few weeks ago and I used it as a cutting. So I have a small one growing. I will also keep the trunk for a while and see if something grows from it. Maybe it's just leaves that died.

But come on...

... it was so pretty!

Third: Seedlings of my Mammillaria Glassii. Some seem to be still alive and I will repot them. But majority is like empty paper balls.

And this is how they looked before (and a little smaller):

Lastly Sulcorebutia langerii that is not completely lost. But out of a nice, big clump I have a pile of little seedlings to save. I noticed that it didnt start growing this spring like other cacti, but it still looked ok. She started even growing some flower buds, but they blasted. And then the middle and largest stem started to look funky.

When I took it out from the pot the roots were basically gone and the that big stem completely rooted. The ofshoots that were growing from it had roots and detached easily.

This one will be fine.
In multiple pots.

Last year:

As much as I really hate when that happens, I know I have backups. It sucks much more when I only have one and one day it is dead too.

Oh well...

Is it strange for so many to die at the same time?

It can happen I guess. It got really hot here lately, maybe they didn't expect it :p
Usually it's single plants now and then though.

Oh! Dear! It looks like some kind of virus?! The water! Something odd in the water supply! Too much chemical?! Chlorine?! In the past my fish would jump out because I added fresh water with residuals of chlorine!

I don't think it's the water otherwise they all would react and the rest is fine :).
Unless too much water and then heat. That could probably cause it.

Water and heat?! Wow! They got burnt very easily! Very curious!

Oopsie. Yeah, we should have an I killed it! feature day. Don't feel bad about the adromischus, I have killed so many recently: it seems deadly if you water them when the nights are warm. Your first cactus: that remaining green island is funky. When I saw the thumbnail I thought you had created some sort of reverse variegation or something

That would make sense. I did water them a few days ago and now the heat came. I think it didn't help that I moved it to more sunny in the morning spot. Damn... I really liked this one.

Black rot variegation :D
It's funny, cause it is not soft, nor smells like it rotted. Just went black ...
BLM? :p

Haha! Yes we need that tag.
I read in another forum that there are bacteria that become active in the soil when the nights are warm 🙄

It would seem some plants are more affected by it than others. I had other pots in the same tray and they are fine.

Yes, my adromischus died like mad of the same black rot as yours and others were fine

Too bad about those. I have a lot here at home too and your post really just relieves me from my frustrations whenever I kill one or two or three or more 😩 Something like misery loving company 😂

Next time I'll take a picture of them before I dispose of them. 😩 It did not occur to me to do that. Good idea!

Haha. I feel better already.

Just posted about a recent addition to our garden. You might want to check it out before I manage to kill it lol. Link's here in case you want to drop by.

Oh, exciting series, but bad for the plants, so better skip it :)

I did notice a few days ago when you posted the baby with the yellow flower that the mother is a bit brown...I wanted to ask is it ok, but finally did not do it. So dead now, oh...

Oh, that poor nice succulent too...

hahaha I think it would be a hit :D

That brown thing I think is normal. They do tend to cork from the bottom sometimes. And this one was like this since last year. That black stuff was a surprise though.

Have you ever watched the series Dexter? :D

Checking on the Elmo babies all the time. One of them had some white spot, like cobweb but it was hard to remove it. Will send you the photo what I see now on it.

So sad, I completely understand your feelings...
Sometimes they are hot and you put water on then and something wrong happens...
Well at least you have many others to take care!!
Thank you for share...
