Blooming cactus - Notocactus Rubrigemmatus

Cactus names are hell confusing. The classifications changes, plants are moved to different groups and finding the right name is a nightmare.

I received this one as Notocactus Rubrigemmatus and this is how I will call it. After all if is mainly just for me to know what I have and keep track. But apparently it is also called Parodia concinna... ¯_(ツ)_/¯

If it is the same cactus under both names, then I already had it and I managed to kill it. It was a nice, big cactus, nothing like those little babies here. It also bloomed for me, and then it was gone. The flowers are similar, spines and the body shape too.

Native to Uruguay and can be found growing among grasses and protected from the strong sun by shrubs.
The flowers are HUGE, mostly yellow, and stay open for a few days. You can see that this cactus is still small comparing to the Parodia (link above) and produced only one flower that is bigger than the plant itself. I am actually surprised to see it blooming. I thought it will have to be bigger to do that.

The flower opened yesterday, but I didn't manage to shoot it. Today we had some clouds and the flower refused to open fully, but I didn't want to miss it. The rain is coming again and I might not have another chance. They can open more.

Those petals are amazing. The bud looked really dark and I though I was lucky to have dark pink/red one. But that colour is just on the outside. Soft, flexible petals and soft, harmless spines - it is a very friendly cactus :)

I have another one of those that also grows a bud, but is a little behind. It is also a little bit smaller. In a couple of day the flower will fade and I will have another one soon after.
