Blooming cactus - Notocactus Ottonis

Notocactus Ottonis flowers 2021 6.jpg

This is the third and last Notocactus in bloom this year. There are some buds still developing on the ones I already showed.
And this means that 100% of my cacti from this type bloomed this year. Nice score :p

Notocactus Ottonis

A round, and very green cactus Native to South Brazil, Uruguay, North-east Argentina and South Paraguay. I got it with a few little offshots on the sides that I removed when I was repotting it. One died, two are growing. And the flowers that you see here is from one of the babies.

One more bud coming up.

The spines are pretty soft here and wont harm fingers if handled carefully. But they are so damn sharp! I like how the bigger one is facing down.

Flowers are yellow, like all the other ones I have. They are huge with very soft, iridescent petals. Would love to get one of them in pink.
And I did not forget to sniff it! They remind of daffodil fragrance. Not quite, but close. A bit artificial, like some chemical. Not a very strong one and I actually had to stick my nose inside to feel it.

Here is the mother plant. See how small the baby is?

The big ones also have a little bud starting and I hope it doesn't blast. It is very behind this year.

Last year it looked like this:

And yes, this is the one that Suzi did not want to pose with :P

Yellow cacti flower...it really means just one thing...no happy Suzi will appear in the post 🤣🤣🤣
Or we will see the absolute absence of her :D
But if this is the "where is the cat" post, I did spot her in the penultimate photo

It is incredible that the flower from the baby cactus in this post is the same size as the flowers of the mother cactus from last year. How the tiny ones manage that?

She just refuses to pose with them!
Maybe it's the smell...

I have no idea! I was amazed myself to see them growing buds. They are so much smaller. I am not complaining though :P Bloom away!

As they do... I'm trying hard to pull them out before they make seeds and reducing the numbers in the garden and the pots

The flowers are beautiful, but those spines give me the chills! I really like the contrast with the dark background.

Thank you!
The spines on this one are actually not the worst. They are very soft and bend.

Ale cudo :) Niesamowite, że na takich zielonych, kłujących roślinach wyrastają przepiękne, kolorowe kwiaty.
