Orchids of Costa Rica

Costa Rica is one of the most diverse countries in the world, it has in its small territory, around 5% of all the species in the world.

Among the most abundant and diverse are orchids, since the country has about 1,400 species, of which 20% are endemic (which do not grow anywhere else on the planet)

Most of the orchid species in the country are protected, since illegal extraction to use it as a decorative plant has reduced the size of many populations.

The national flower of Costa Rica is an Orchid, known as Guaria Morada (Guarianthe skinneri) and was included as part of the design of the five-colones bill from the eighties, recognized as one of the most beautiful bills in the world.
