Summer Garden Update: Apple Trees

These trees have been in the ground for almost half a year now. It seems it has adjusted and is now growing. Though the bugs seem to be eating alot of the leaves on the plant. I did not realize bugs found Apple tree leaves so tasty. Though not so much as been eaten where im concerned yet. Glad the soil temps have warmed up and hopefully the roots are growing and establishing in the new soil I laid them in.

The Canna bushes next to the Apple trees are growing too close. So I cut back some of the Canna to give the fruit trees some room.

Out of the two Apple trees, the second one seems to be doing better. Its taller and less of the plant has been chewed on. Its almost as tall as me, probably will be by end of the year. They are semi dwarf Apple trees but im sure they will still grow pretty tall. No need to prune them right now, ill give them a few years to branch out and form alot of leaves.

Glad to see the Apple trees are not shocked any longer though I hope they can keep up with the bugs, if not ill need to treat them with Neem oil or something else.

No fruit yet, and just a flower or two has formed. Maybe next year we will get some more flowers and possibly some fruit.

The Cortland and Honeycrisps are going okay and maybe by next year I can free some some light. There are some sick trees next to them that need to be removed. Maybe that will give them alot more light and make them a little happier.

Outside its hard to control the insects and what happens to them, so the best I can do is checking on them every couple days and to give them as much light and water as they need.

How long would it take them to grow before they bear fruits?

Anywhere from two to five years depending on how old the plant was when started. I'm hoping only a couple years as my tree is already a year or two old.
