Building a stone house in the woods: the video

avatar
(Edited)

Around this time last year I found a ruin in the woods so I re-built it in my own way and enjoyed many cold days with my family in there during the winter.

This is what it looked like when we found it.

During the 80 days it took me to complete I only took my video camera once and created the film you can see above, featuring my family and our pregnant cat who was responsible for leading me to the ruin.

Building this house was one of the most wonderful experiences of my life so far and I highly recommend you give it a go. It isn't as hard as you think!

Fifi seems to be the simplest way to write it, but anything works really ;)

Am so pleased you caught this film. It was unfortunate that when @amico.sports was here the land owner had just discovered it, so I couldn't show him. But there are plenty more ruins which could easily be converted around here!

Thank you for appreciating this moment with us :)

So the owner of the land discovered it? Oh, what a pity. But then, you go for the other ones when you want :)
It can be seen you were happy, and the family and Fifi too. Beautiful 😇

It was a real joy to meet you, your wonderful family and the bubbly mum Fifi with her puppy, even though we couldn't visit the self-built house, mate.

But I would like to know: would the land, where the hearship could be built, be for sale?

Hey buddy. It was great to meet you too!

Unfortunately that land appears to be owned by the same person who owns the land beneath it, upon which I built the stone house. I know this because he has since then cordoned off the whole area with a fence, just to let everyone know they are not welcome there. Seems unlikely this guy wants to sell and based on what he did to the house, I can already tell you he is not a happy or balanced human being. The kind of person who will likely be difficult to make a good deal with!

Wait till we find our promised land. Then I will have something much more interesting for you ;)

Sending hugs!

I love it!!! It's beautiful.

I just finished your previous post on this - is it still trashed? Have you been back?

In any event, the joy of the experience for all of you shows through in both of your posts. Well done.

Initially he just smashed a window and messed the place up a bit but a few weeks later he then decided to smash up the door too, so it is looking in bit of a sorry state now. But nothing I can't fix in a few hours should I ever feel inspired ;)

But as you say, the best thing about all of this was the building experience, so no matter if we never go back. Now I know what I can do...

It is such an inviting space, I can't understand why he doesn't just enjoy it. I sure would! I'd thank you for doing it too.

Fear is always the killer of love. He was scared someone may take over his land and that this would be a big problem for him. I should have left him a message in the house so that he did not imagine the worst possibility. Still... lesson learned for next time!

Wow! That’s a fantastic little hut you have built there. The scenery of the mountains is fantastic! You are really in a very safe place!!

Yes, it is pretty special here, but I would say there are still too many people around! We are looking for somewhere even more secluded than this...

And when we get there, I will no doubt build a few more stone houses ;)

Oh! Still too many people!! I hope you could find your ideal spot soon! Next year is going to be dicey! The pressure is mounting higher and higher here!!

Very cool video - and Fifi really has become part of the family.

That was a year ago so things have changed a lot, but yes, her and her son (who is called Roger now!) are very much a part of the family now ;)

I was sad when you said in the previous post it had been torn apart. It was a wonderful space you had created.

I wouldn't say torn apart exactly. A broken window and broken door. Nothing which can't be fixed in a few hours ;)

Perhaps that little house will live again in the future...

Oh! I thought from the photos the damage was more extensive. I am glad it wasn't.

Appreciate you saying so. It was truly a beautiful experience.

Also, I believe skills like this will be useful in the future. And next time I will have the kids build it for me ;)
