Khmerican Family Abroad #26 πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘§ Life In Transit 🚲 Part 2 - Two Wheels 🏍️

Continuing from part 1, this post is focused on two-wheeled transport, and the times we have used such transportation. πŸš²πŸ›΅πŸοΈ

Β  Β  Β In Cambodia, two-wheeled transport is the most abundant, whether it be bicycles or small displacement motorcycles. Before we acquired a Bajaj RE, this was our main form of transport too.

Β  Β  Β Before @Sreypov and I moved out of our prison cell-sized rental room to open a restaurant, we used exclusively two-wheeled transport. At that time, the Cambodian government didn't have a law preventing a maximum number of passengers on a motorcycle, so we rode 4-up unimpeded by bureaucracy.

Β  Β  Β During the transition to the restaurant space, which was still small by most standards, we were exclusively two-wheeled. Monkey-B, addicted to adventure, would always sleep next to the family transport in hopes the sounds would awake her and she could go with whoever is going somewhere that's not home.

Β  Β  Β My most prized two-wheeled possession was our former Japanese Government Postal Delivery bicycle. They are increasingly hard to find in Cambodia, mostly because boutique guesthouses are using them for trendy displays. Notice the old-school rod brakes on this beauty.

Β  Β  Β As further evidence of Monkey-B's travel addiction, here she is blocking @Sreypov from leaving without taking her along. What a confident little Monkey-B she was.

Β  Β  Β Once you've spent enough time on two wheels, it becomes second nature and you can even take you can begin enjoying snacks and selfies with great confidence.

Β  Β  Β Nothing more than putting a cheap Chinese helmet on used to elicit excitement and the spirit of adventure from the @KidSisters.

Β  Β  Β I remember the first time I was able to do some Vespa tuning in Cambodia for a customer, and I also gave the family some short rides on it while we housed it. When I left the country without the family due to visa problems, I purchased a Vespa look-alike for @Sreypov, and she loved the twist-and-go simplicity of a modern 50cc moped.

Β  Β  Β I shall end this abundance of two-wheeled transportation post with this gem, a beautiful bicycle and trailer which unfortunately have become yard art. I can't remember what the girls were distracted by in the above photo.

Someday we will have a life like that again, I promise. Sorry our life in Suriname is so difficult and full of hardship.

Even if we could've reopened our restaurant abroad, we would've still lost everything because of COVID-19 because restaurants are now the worst business to have.
