I don't think power corrupts anyone. I think the corrupt seek power without reservation, and the most corrupt get the most power.
I remembered something Jimi Hendrix said once. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, there will be peace."
I think this is that transition.

I've seen it happen more times than I care to count...
I note that we see others through the lens of our beliefs. It is natural for people with integrity to see others acting per the same values, but it is demonstrable that liars manipulate us to profit themselves.
When you thought you saw power corrupt someone, what you really saw was someone corrupt attaining power, who had previously dissembled as honest.
I'm not sure I fully agree.
The philosophical extension of that argument would mean you can be born corrupt, which I find highly improbable. (with the tiny exception of the 1%-2% of true psychopaths)
sorry - on my first coffee - that's not what I actually mean...corrupt isn't an absolute, but by degree, I suppose.
(the first cry by a baby wanting attention 'pretending' to need something, could be - strictly speaking - a corrupt act...But I do not put that into an equation of the type of 'corrupt' we are talking about
You well understand my meaning, which is all I could ask of you. It is the necessity of persuasion in society that nudges us all towards corruption, while as you observe, persuasion, even whining, isn't corruption, per se.
Very few people are incorruptible. I have yet to hear of any bribes Ron Paul accepted. He wasn't a great statesman, but he was an honest one IMHO. He gained power and did not become corrupted, so exemplifies my point.
Fuck, I just saw a female bus driver with the new found power of some rubber gloves and a face mask acting like Adolf Hitler on "her" bus yesterday - power corrupts as certainly as eating food makes people fat!
You think it was the gloves really?
Not her shitty indoctrination?
I don't think she was corrupted by that power. I think her corruption would not have been observed by you were she elsewhere doing a job without power, but I think she would have been just as corrupt.
Also, since eating food doesn't make you fat, I agree.
I think she was someone waiting for an excuse to throw her weight around, and she took to her new mask like a duck to water. So yes she was corrupted by the chance of gaining some power.
Ok.
Hang on - in the most simple terms - are you saying the root cause of obesity is not directly related to eating food? (yeah I know it's more complex, but food is essential to the process!
