Skynet: Decentralizing The Internet

▶️ Watch on 3Speak

Skynet is known by fans of 1980s films as it was the AI that was potentially going to destroy humanity in the Terminator. Whereas that was controlling, this Skynet is after freedom.

In this video I discuss how Skynet just introduced a key component to the decentralized Internet.

Here is a link to the article discussed in the video:

The DeCrypt article did contain much information about what this is. But thanks for the tip. I need to look into the project. Any attempt at decentralizing the Internet, which in its current form is pretty awful, is good.

Yeah I agree, the more tools the better. It is a step by step process but we simply have to keep moving forward.

There is a lot at stake and it will not switch overnight.

You knocked it on the head with this one, decentralization can bring some equality between the participants, even if they need to work for it. If you don't get involved now and take a piece of the pie, it will all go to centralized entities which might buy it all when mature enough. So it is in our power to stop the tyranny by taking action today!

The internet in Nigeria is way too centralised and monopolised and this causes a lot of exploitations by the way. I just decided to see the advantage of such a thing as Skynet. I'm still watching to get more details

i got some $sc coin but haven't been able to write any code or learn anything lately - homeless in a trailer hasn't been a real conducive environment for techy stuff

I will have to check this out. I tried out Storj a couple of years ago, but haven't used it in some time. I need to get back to looking at these technologies again.

Do we get Dystopia or Utopia?

Unfortunately/fortunately the answer is never binary.
We always fall somewhere in the middle.

SAI is a project that I was pretty excited about when I got here in 2017 and early 2018. I'll probably reinvest into it after the crash of the next Mega bull run... give it 2 years... lets call it 2023. I'm willing to bet they'll make big moves but it will take a while to get there.

Summary:
In this episode, the speaker discusses the importance of decentralization in the context of technology and governance, referencing a project called Skynet which is working towards creating a decentralized internet. He emphasizes the dangers of centralized power in social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter, highlighting issues of censorship and the ideological biases that come into play. The speaker stresses the need for a decentralized internet that allows for freedom of expression and challenges mainstream governance systems, advocating for a shift towards decentralized tools for a more democratic society.

Detailed Article:
The episode delves into the concept of decentralization, focusing on the Skynet project and its role in creating a decentralized internet. Skynet, known for developing SIA, a decentralized storage platform, has introduced SkyDB, a database facilitating the creation of decentralized applications. The speaker advocates for decentralization as a means to counter the centralized control seen in social media giants like Facebook and Twitter, which have been criticized for censorship and ideological biases.

The speaker highlights the challenges posed by centralized governance systems, labeling them as tyrannical and favoring the elite and powerful. He argues that the present governance structures, whether in Venezuela or the United States, are flawed and in need of reform. Blockchain and cryptocurrency technologies are seen as potential tools to address governance issues and democratize decision-making processes.

Moreover, the speaker criticizes the ideological biases present in social media platforms, where censorship and control over information have become prevalent. He raises concerns about the dangers of silencing voices and the need for platforms that allow for diverse perspectives, regardless of ideological leanings. The importance of governance in the blockchain and cryptocurrency space is emphasized as a crucial aspect to address the shortcomings of existing centralized systems.

Furthermore, the speaker touches upon the significance of technology in shaping the future of society, warning about the potential for dystopia if control is concentrated in the hands of a few individuals or organizations. He stresses the need for decentralization to ensure that technological advancements benefit society as a whole, rather than perpetuating power imbalances.

In conclusion, the episode advocates for a shift towards decentralized tools and governance systems to foster a more equitable and democratic society. The Skynet project serves as an example of initiatives working towards decentralization, aiming to create a platform for decentralized applications that challenge the status quo of centralized control in the digital space.
