Hello everyone am happy to be involved in this contest and the topic stereotype is a very interesting one and this has giving me the opportunity to share with you one of the stereotype of my mother town which is really giving me concern
It is a general saying in Nigeria especially in the western part of the country, that" kogi state indigens are known for adultery both male and female they so much believe that when you come from that area you hardly have a happy or settled home to some extent some people will even say they can never get married to a lady or a guy from kogi state because they are know to be sex machine and they sleep with several men and women out there this keep bothering me to some extent that I no longer tell people am related to kogi state because of the stigmatization label on the citizens of that part, he got to a point I have to keep asking questions from the elderly once why is that happening? The first person I ask is my parents and they gave me some insight and I get to know that those things are stereotype, my mom told me,let me start by using my self as an example she said it was only my father that he knows during her cutship and he was the one that disflower her and till date they are still leaving happily together I also confirm that from my father and he said the same, from there I have to start haven a rest of mind and so many other people I asked about it gave me a different perception about the whole issue,so I have to conclude within my self that it is (stereotype)no state or village that did not have it's own stereotype and that is ours too in some state their own is stealing, some their own is lying, and all this are not true Infact there is a general slogan when they want to make gest of the kogi people from okun area which is the area my mom came from permit me to write in my language( okun boda antimi nko bodami nko aburomi aburomi) all this are just normal greetings and they keep using it as a slogan to butres their point ,what they mean by saying that is this, meaning (whenever okun people started greetings them self like that especially the opposite sex that something is going on between both parties either they are dating each other secretly but pretending to be brothers and sisters ) and t is not true this is just a mode of greeting that say good day my brother good day my sister it's a way of respecting one another by saying my brother instead of mentioning the person name directly they prefer to call you brother in other to respect you, this has given me alot of concern in the past but thank God for the initiators #hive-181017 #whatamidoing #starstrings01 of this wonderful challenge am relieved and am happy I was able to share with the world my thoughts on the topic kudos do have a wonderful day

Wow, what a revelation. It is just obvious that one should not generalize an idea when relating it to certain people or tribes.
There is always am exception to the rule.

Hello Toby Walter. I have heard this stereotyping about indigenes of Kogi too. I'm glad your parents proved the labeling wrong.

I don't agree with stereotyping because usually it turns out to be wrong. It also give people wrong ideas about others leading to the stigmatization you talked about.

Thank you for sharing your story with us. Good luck in the contest. 🙂
