<Hello Hivers! I'm pleased to participate in this first contest of #CrossCulture, I arrived following @cepalr, and when I read in their feed the initiative I got excited to write.

This contest invites me to rejoice among my memories and open my heart expressing what I feel to have lived in a place where time seems not to pass, even the walls of the houses and streets reflect the intimacy of the colonial era of my country Venezuela, I speak to you of the Caracas Valley and within the parish La Pastora whose name derives from a Spanish devotion to the Divine Shepherdess of Souls. It is an area that has resisted being invaded by excessive urbanism, there are still some stone roads in different directions, especially towards the mountain of water with which the ancestral houses that cover the area with large portals, windows and hallways are adjacent. The parish is now a cultural heritage that obliges its locals and foreigners to preserve it.

In this parish my family and I lived for 10 beautiful years in a building in front of the emblematic Plaza José Felix Ribas and the church of the pastor.

In this sector I learned about the meaning of traditions and customs, in the square I experienced multiple cultural activities of which I was also a protagonist with the nearby schools and conservatory of music Our Lady of Guadalupe.

The Christmas season was my favorite time because I belonged to two children's choirs directed by teachers of popular music who, together with the customs and activities in the church, preserved the mass of roosters, the singing of Christmas bonuses and carols, gathering children to visit different houses during the Christmas season, We were singing and harmonizing our homes, wishing that the tradition would never die, since our visits connected them to the early years of the Caracas shepherdess, where Venezuelans and foreigners lived in community, each one with his own culture, integrating themselves at Christmas.

During that cultural journey we received Creole sweets and shared beautiful moments among neighbors until dawn. As an adult some time ago I was visiting one of my music teachers and she told me with sadness that the tradition has been diminished, because those who led the meetings have died, and there is no generation of relief that wants to follow the tradition with vehemence, and also the delinquency has invited the locals to maintain their custom, in other schedules or with doors and windows closed.

AND WHERE IS THE SHEPHERD LOCATED?

It is located in Caracas Venezuela, to the northwest of the Capital District and is part of the historical center of the city, is known as the Puerta de Caracas, way of the Spanish and way to the Sea. When talking about La Pastora Parish, we can't forget to mention El Ávila Hill since there is an intimate historical relationship of communication and interrelation since it is one of the boundaries where the first communication routes for land and sea negotiations between the city and the Caribbean Sea developed by the Spaniards were established. Today the Avila is called Wuarairarepano National Park, whose indigenous meaning is Water Mountain due to the infinite fluvial source. This majestic and enigmatic vegetable lung keeps many ancestral secrets, according to chroniclers and anthropologists, that the indigenous tribe Los Caracas existed and lived among the mountains, whose life was involved between the mountain and the Caribbean sea, serving also as a refuge from the slave traders.

Image from my personal album taken with a camera from my ZTE 110 cell phone from La Carlota Park with a view of the Wararairarepano.

At the moment it possesses tourist site thanks to the great ecosystem that it possesses and the possibility of routes of alternative communication that it presents between the city and the coastal zone, it is worth to emphasize that for being a national park it cannot be inhabited, nevertheless they exist in her for his data and sense of conservation, small populations of people who have dedicated themselves to the tourism, floriculture and agriculture among them: Galipán and the Water places also it possesses infinity of paths and viewpoints for trotters and excursionists.

Other attractions are: Museums like the Canoche Caves, a dark and impressive place where it is said that a German doctor embalmed bodies looking for a formula to preserve them, The highest part of this place has ruins of two small vaulted castles that were used as prisons. Both castles have a view of the coast of the Caribbean Sea, La Guaira, and it is said that from there you can see the boats of friends and enemies; We also have the Museum of the Stones, a space of natural poetry dedicated to women, whose structure of stones encloses an ancestral artistic symbolism guided by its own creator, Mr. Zoe. And not less important we have the Teleferico that takes us from the city of Caracas to the top of the mountain visiting the Hotel Humboldt site of a colossal infrastructure visible from any angle of the city.

If the Shepherdess is the reflection of a living history that from every corner there is always something to tell, in the central area is the house of Arturo Painter of the XIX century, house that today is one of the museums of our city where the primordial elements of the life of this famous painter of manners bequeathed by his wife Maria Lastenia Tello are kept.

The house of Doctor José Gregorio Hernández whose corner bears his name, a character in Venezuelan history to whom miracles are attributed, and after the insistence of his faithful and investigations, he will be beatified in the next few days. As well as this house of Michelena and Jose Gregorio Hernandez many others have been converted into schools, convents, care centers for the elderly, cultural centers that tell stories of families, wealthy, poets, writers and independence heroes.

The present is a sketch of what La Pastora parish is and I relate according to what I lived for 10 years among its streets, neighbors and cultural activities that taught me to value a community . Although I no longer live there, I feel happy when I see that its inhabitants are integrated to maintain its kindness. I hope that the next generations will value it as much as I do and will continue to tell its story.

Thank you for visiting my Post!

Congratulations to #CrossCulture for the great initiative!
