I promised myself that I'd read at least two short books every week and write a review about them, but it has being almost a month since I last did. Feedbooks has an amazing archive of free ebooks. The books are very old, 20th century, 19th century, even more older. Whatever is it you like reading, you've got it. If you don't or haven't started reading yet, I guarantee you would find something of interest there, its a beautiful archive, as is project Guternberg. All your book problems have being solved, and like I always say to people who say they don't read books, "you have not find the right book".

Yes, I had selection problems. At first I started with the book, The chaperone by Henry James. At first I seemed to understand it. It started of with this "modern day problem" of a woman leaving her husband for another lover. Eventually, it started getting too complicated and boring for me. Then I saw the title The idiots by Joseph Conrad and I surely knew this was going to be humorous. I love humor:). Just a few pages in and I was turned off. I finally stumbled upon this one. Lately, I be having a peculiar inclination of books about time. Time travels, time warping, time, et cetera. Makes one ponder don't you think .:).

Plot

The book started off with the main protagonist in Tue process of killing himself. He held a revolver to his head. He was a chronic drunkard and gambler. His wife had just moved out of the house and everything seemed to be over for him. Somehow, at the exact time he was about pulling the trigger, everything else seemed to freeze. He was confused. Is he dead? Is he just hallucinating? Is he in another world? I guess you'd have to find out yourself.

Setting

I can't seem to remember any, but there were scenes in a Library, Laboratory and a restaurant.
Characters

A fee main characters. Dave Miller the protagonist of the novel. His wife Helen. John Erickson a renowned scientist and somewhat a protagonist too. Major the dog :).

Purpose

I think the one lesson I took away was that, sometimes you need a near death experience, a reminder of bdeath to truly start living.
