Hello.
I could not share an article here because I have experienced something sad lately. I missed sharing, but my hand did not go to the keyboard. Now I will not go too far, as I do not want to remember and feel sorry again. I missed you and this place very much. During this time, I read books to keep my mind off. I intend to share one of them with you today. The title of the book is "The Ocean at the End of the Lane".

I've wanted to read Neil Gaiman for a long time. He was one of the writers whose pen and style I was most curious about. I actually wanted to buy the Stardust book to get to know him, but I chose this book as it is not published here at the moment. Another book I was curious about was his book "American Gods". To get to know an author, I first start with his short books. In this way, I learn the style of writing. In order to understand the author, we first need to learn his style, right?

Meanwhile, I try not to read the information about the book on the back cover of the book. I do this because I want the book I bought to surprise me completely. I make guessing games in my own way by looking at the cover. I don't know if this is the right thing to do, but I'm happy doing it.

I did so in this book. I didn't read the back cover and just bought it. I tried to guess by looking at the cover and the title of the book. Before I read it, I thought it was a detective novel, but it didn't turn out that way. The book was really awesome!

"As delicate and sad as the wings of a butterfly.
As menacing and frightening as a knife in the dark.

The story begins with our hero returning to his childhood and his memories of Lettie Hempstock, who claimed that the lake next to his home was actually an ocean. After this moment; a door opens into a little boy's past, which is extremely frightening, strange and full of danger.

Now, our hero does not know what he will encounter at the end of the road ...
(Back Cover Introduction Letter)"

The book has a fantastic fiction decorated with fairy-tale elements. There is no such exaggerated fantastic items, everything is adjusted to the dose in my opinion. I congratulate the author on this. As I dug into the childhood memories of the character, I got in touch with my own childhood. I noticed that I was really nervous during the thriller scenes. When I read that different world in the story, I did not feel strange at all. It seemed to me as if it was a world I knew before. The atmosphere in the book drew me in. So I can say that I love the author very much. I read the pages with curiosity without ever breaking away from the story. The end of the story is not clear. He leaves behind many unanswered questions. In my opinion, this is the main purpose of the book. He left the answers of some events to us readers.

If I will briefly talk about the beginning of the story; We meet a man who came back to the city where he used to live because of a deceased person and thus started to tour his neighborhood. As he wanders around the neighborhood, he remembers the past and finds himself in front of the Lettie Hempstock house. The man remembers everything he has forgotten as he enters the house and tells us as he remembers. This boy who loves books, who is scared and leaves his door open every night while he sleeps, begins to remember everything when he meets Lettie and his family. The name of the main character is never mentioned. I realized this after the book was finished and I started writing here. Perhaps the author did this to find the child here that never grew up in us.

Lettie is Lettie's mother, Ginnie, and grandmother Mrs. Hempstock live in a house at the end of the road. Behind that house is a lake, she. Lettie always calls it the ocean, even though it is a lake. All the events begin after the man meets this family.

Lettie settles on the 'parasitic' boy because of his wrong attitude. It's a monster, in my opinion. It is Lettie's Grandmother who gave her the parasitic name. Parasite is a fantastic and scary creature. Lettie and the main character begin their adventure trying to get rid of this creature.

It was an action-packed and fast-ending book. Although it contains fantastic elements, it was giving very beautiful and very powerful messages in between. Although it was a different world that took place there, every message given addressed us. I wanted it to never end while I was reading, I wish there were more pages, but I would still want more, however long. After reading it, I had some questions in my mind. Then I found the answers in my own way. I let these answers disappear in secret with this book.

After the book was over, I came across a video while searching for what the author said about the book. There are questions asked about this book and the answers given by the author. Watching this aroused my interest, so I wanted to share it with you. After watching this video, maybe you will feel closer to fiction like me.

EXTRACTS FROM THE BOOK

"Adults follow the paths. Children go exploring. Adults don't get bored of walking the same road hundreds, thousands of times; most adults don't even think of going off the road, diving into bushes, going through hedges."

"If you ask me, it was unimaginable that the elders didn't want to read Narnia, hidden islands, smugglers, and dangerous fairies."

I will tell you a very important secret: When you look inside, adults are not adults either. Outwardly, they may appear to be big, inconsiderate, or knowing what they are doing. But they are like they were when they were children.

Childhood memories are sometimes undermined by what happened later; They are like toys forgotten at the bottom of an adult's closet, but they are never lost forever.

"I like legends. They are neither for adults nor for children. They are beyond such distinctions. They are what they are."
