Bueno, este tema me pareció entretenido para escribir y para leer en particular, así que decidí intentarlo con la ingenua idea de que sería sencillo pensar en unas cuantas parejas de la literatura que me gustaran y luego solo tendría que decidir entre ellos, pero no, no fue así, estuve una cantidad considerable, de la que no estoy orgullosa decir, de días mirando a la pared y recapitulando los libros que he leído para darme cuenta de una serie de cosas: 1. Entre los libros que leído, gran parte de ellos solo cuentan con un protagonista sin interés amoroso; 2. Las otras historias que sí cuentan con un interés amoroso, en realidad se enfocan en otros temas y tienden a olvidar que dicho ente existe, decidiendo acabar con la pareja antes de que su relación inicie y por ende yo no puedo apoyarlos realmente; 3. Odio a uno de los dos miembros de la pareja, puede que me encante el libro o el personaje, pero no puedo decir con seguridad que ame la pareja porque solo puedo pensar en lo desagradable que es el otro integrante.
Así que el proceso de redacción de este post podría decirse que fue de autodescubrimiento para mí, porque descubrí lo propensa que soy a repasar una y otra vez los personajes hasta llegar al punto de luego repudiar parejas en los medios de entretenimiento en general, sin importar que sean personajes ficticios cuya unión no puede ser una verdadera amenaza para mi salud emocional más allá de lo que hago aparentar, no puedo evitarlo y dudo que trabaje para cambiarlo. Pero lo que sí puedo afirmar con todo mi corazón frustrado desde hace días, es que todas estas parejas fueron pensadas con detenimiento y más que una serie de párrafos describiendo lo mucho que amo a las parejas, probablemente sea más una carta de amor a las autoras en general.

Well, I found this topic interesting to write about and to read in particular, so I decided to give it a try with the naive idea that it would be simple to think of a few couples in literature that I liked and then I would just have to decide between them, but no, it wasn't like that, I spent a considerable amount, of which I am not proud to say, of days looking at the wall and recapping the books I have read to realize a number of things: 1. Among the books I read, most of them only feature a protagonist with no love interest; 2. The other stories that do feature a love interest actually focus on other issues and tend to forget that such an entity exists, deciding to end the couple before their relationship begins and thus I can't really root for them; 3. I hate one of the two members of the couple, I may love the book or the character, but I can't say for sure that I love the couple because I can only think of how unpleasant the other member is.
So the process of writing this post could be said to have been one of self-discovery for me, because I discovered how prone I am to going over and over characters to the point of then disowning couples in entertainment media in general, never mind that they are fictional characters whose union cannot be a real threat to my emotional health beyond what I make it appear, I can't help it and I doubt I'll work to change it. But what I can state with all my frustrated heart for days now, is that all these couples were thought through and rather than a series of paragraphs describing how much I love the couples, it's probably more of a love letter to the authors in general.

¿Cómo puedo empezar mi introducción a este libro de una manera que le haga justicia? No puedo, por eso solo puedo decir que la sinopsis no miente, Valancy es una heroína simpática y que nadie puede evitar amar. Esa es una característica particular de Lucy Maud Montgomery, mejor conocida como la autora de “Anna de las tejas verdes”, ella puede crear de la nada personajes indudablemente encantadores y llenos de personalidad, todos sus libros profesan un profundo amor a la naturaleza y las relaciones humanas honestas. The blue castle, su última novela, no es la excepción, es un libro lleno de esperanza y aboga por la libertad de pensamiento y maneras de vivir, la autora crítica duramente a las personas que piensan que están en un pedestal y que por ende sus opiniones o estilos de vida son superiores a su prójimo, además de un tema bastante importante y del que quisiera aprender, dejar de vivir en base a los demás y empezar a tomar decisiones por ti. Quizás es una lección que se ha escuchado en numerosas ocasiones, pero considero que no se repite lo suficiente, desde que soy pequeña he tenido dificultades en expresar mi opinión de las cosas o enfrentarme a las personas cuando se amerita, incluso no podía cortarme el pelo como quisiera sin tener el consentimiento de mi madre (y aun no puedo); necesito la aprobación de otros y saber que lo que hago está bien, sabiendo perfectamente que no es sano.
Valancy afronta este dilema desde su juventud, se despertó con 29 años un día para descubrir que su vida jamás fue suya y que en ningún momento sintió verdadera felicidad. Creo que muchas personas se pueden identificar con ella y sus problemas, es una heroína madura, sensible y graciosa. No pude evitar encontrarme riéndome como boba a la pantalla cada vez que Valancy narraba una ocurrencia, pensaba en su querido castillo azul, su amante que vive en él y su amor por el escritor de la vida salvaje, John Foster. Valancy es una mujer con un rico mundo interior y gran personalidad, es grandioso ver como en el libro progresivamente su mundo interior se trasciende a la realidad.
Ahora bien, hablé suficiente de Valancy y mi amor por ella. Así que lo más prudente es que explique porqué amo la unió de Valancy y Barney, después de todo están aquí para eso y no quiero hacer clickbait. Por lo que permítanme presentarles a Barney, un hombre que no lleva demasiado tiempo en el pueblo de Valancy y vive en una isla cercana, es amigo de personas que la familia de ella, podrían describir como “mala clase” y se presume en el pueblo que es fugitivo de la ley que acabó con sus esposas. ¿Encantador, no lo creen? Pero no se dejen engañar, esta no es una novela abusiva que romantiza actos criminales ni una policiaca, todos son rumores y eso es todo lo que diré, porque siento que es mejor conocerlo mejor junto a Valancy. Su romance no es el más apasionado o el más dulce, pero aprecio de ellos su honestidad y el respeto que se tienen entre sí. No hay juramentos de amor a los cuatro vientos o gestos dignos de una romcom (detalle que aprecio), pero como lectora, me sentí más atraída a sus experiencias cotidianas y sus conversaciones, me dio la ilusión de estar leyendo algo real, un evento que bien podría suceder en cualquier hogar y no hay nada que aprecie más que ese ambiente familiar y cálido que aportan los romances de este tipo. Siento que esta pareja es la definición de compañerismo, respeto, honestidad y compasión, recomiendo infinitamente este libro.
How can I begin my introduction to this book in a way that does it justice? I can't, so I can only say that the synopsis doesn't lie, Valancy is a likable heroine and one that no one can help but love. That is a particular characteristic of Lucy Maud Montgomery, best known as the author of "Anna of Green Gables", she can create out of nothing characters that are undeniably charming and full of personality, all of her books profess a deep love of nature and honest human relationships. The blue castle, her latest novel, is no exception, it is a book full of hope and advocates freedom of thought and ways of living, the author harshly criticizes people who think they are on a pedestal and therefore their opinions or lifestyles are superior to their fellow man, plus a rather important theme and one I would like to learn from, stop living based on others and start making decisions for you. Perhaps this is a lesson that has been heard on numerous occasions, but I consider that it is not repeated enough, since I was little I have had difficulty expressing my opinion of things or confronting people when it is warranted, even I could not cut my hair as I wanted without my mother's consent (and still can't); I need the approval of others and know that what I do is right, knowing full well that it is not healthy.
Valancy has faced this dilemma since her youth, waking up one day at the age of 29 to discover that her life was never her own and that at no time did she ever feel true happiness. I think many people can identify with her and her problems, she is a mature, sensitive and funny heroine. I couldn't help but find myself giggling like a fool at the screen every time Valancy narrated a quip, I thought of her beloved blue castle, her lover who lives in it and her love for the wildlife writer, John Foster. Valancy is a woman with a rich inner world and great personality, it is great to see how in the book progressively her inner world transcends into reality.
Now, I talked enough about Valancy and my love for her. So the prudent thing for me to do is to explain why I love Valancy and Barney's union, after all they are here for that and I don't want to clickbait. So let me introduce you to Barney, a man who hasn't been in Valancy's town too long and lives on a nearby island, is friends with people that her family, might describe as "bad class" and is presumed in town to be a fugitive from the law who ended up with their wives. Charming, don't you think? But don't be fooled, this is not an abusive novel romanticizing criminal acts nor a crime one, it's all hearsay and that's all I'll say, because I feel it's better to get to know him better along with Valancy. Their romance is not the most passionate or the sweetest, but I appreciate their honesty and respect for each other. There are no oaths of love to the four winds or gestures worthy of a romcom (a detail I appreciate), but as a reader, I was drawn more into their everyday experiences and conversations, it gave me the illusion that I was reading something real, an event that could very well happen in any home and there is nothing I appreciate more than that warm, familiar atmosphere that romances of this type bring. I feel that this couple is the definition of companionship, respect, honesty and compassion, I highly recommend this book.

Fue difícil encontrar este libro, tanto en inglés como en español fue una tarea imposible y terminé leyéndolo en inglés. Pero puedo decir que fue una lectura agradable y con personajes graciosos. Creo que la verdadera estrella de este libro es Freddy, en sus propias palabras no es brillante ni guapo, pero puedo asegurarles lo agradable que es como personaje. Es una persona sensible, amable, de naturaleza práctica y enemigo natural del conflicto. Si bien no adoro las tramas de “Oh, es totalmente natural manipular al objeto de mi aprecio porque de esta manera descubrirá lo imposible que es vivir sin mí”, pero creo que esta novela se salva principalmente por las interacciones entre los personajes. Es un deleite leer como Kitty, desconocida de la manera de actuar de la ciudad, descubre poco a poco cada detalle de la metrópoli y las decisiones que toma la llevan a desventuras que se hubieran podido evitar fácilmente.
Mi parte favorita de la pareja fue la sutileza, la autora no describe una historia de amor apasionada, más bien se burla de las tropas comunes del género y de lo detestable que resultaría conocer a una persona con características similares a sus héroes. Más bien es una sorpresa ver como su relación se basa en la amistad y en las interacciones, siento que los romances que inician de una amistad son los mejores, Kitty y Freddy tienen intereses en común y ambos reconocen las fortalezas y debilidades del otro, una de mis conversaciones favoritas de ellos fue cuando, a pesar de que todo el mundo dijera lo contrario, Kitty le dijo a Freddy como lo encontraba como la persona más amable y lista que conoce, hecho que él encontró como extraordinario dado a como solían describirlo. Adoro como ambos siempre están apoyándose constantemente y pensando en el bienestar del otro, es algo digno de admirar.
No obstante, debo advertir que cuando digo que es un romance sutil, en serio me refiero a eso. Hay que leer entre líneas y los sentimientos de ambos se desarrollan de manera tenue mientras avanza la trama; pero sigue siendo un buen libro para pasar el rato.
It was difficult to find this book, both in English and Spanish it was an impossible task and I ended up reading it in English. But I can say that it was an enjoyable read with funny characters. I think the real star of this book is Freddy, in his own words he is not bright or handsome, but I can assure you how likable he is as a character. He is sensitive, kind, practical in nature and a natural enemy of conflict. While I don't adore "Oh, it's totally natural to manipulate the object of my appreciation because this way he'll find out how impossible it is to live without me" plots, but I think this novel is saved mainly by the interactions between the characters. It is a delight to read how Kitty, unfamiliar with the ways of the city, gradually discovers every detail of the metropolis and the decisions she makes lead her into misadventures that could have easily been avoided.
My favorite part of the pairing was the subtlety, the author does not describe a passionate love story, rather she pokes fun at the common tropes of the genre and how detestable it would be to meet a person with similar characteristics to her heroes. Rather it is a surprise to see how their relationship is based on friendship and interactions, I feel that romances that start from a friendship are the best, Kitty and Freddy have interests in common and both recognize each other's strengths and weaknesses, one of my favorite conversations of theirs was when, despite everyone saying otherwise, Kitty told Freddy how she found him to be the kindest and smartest person she knows, a fact he found to be extraordinary given how they used to describe him. I love how the two of them are always constantly supporting each other and thinking of each other's welfare, it's something to admire.
However, I must warn that when I say it's a subtle romance, I really mean it. You have to read between the lines and the feelings of both develop in a subdued way as the plot progresses; but it's still a good book to pass the time.

No puedo recomendar lo suficiente este libro, estoy enamorada de la caracterización de personajes de esta mujer, todos ellos están tan llenos de personalidad que casi pareciera que son personas reales, no existe la perfección en ninguno de ellos, ni siquiera la protagonista se salva de eso. Esa particularidad me hace amar tanto a este libro, Anne es tan encantadora, quisiera tener la mitad de su positivismo, es decir, su infancia no podría apestar más y aun así según ella su peor mal es ser pelirroja y tener pecas, quisiera poder ver mis problemas de la misma manera de vez en cuando.
Además de presentar una heroína encantadora, también Lucy Maud Montgomery nos da un romance de la infancia, podemos ver crecer a Girlbert y Anne desde su rivalidad en primaria hasta su adultez cuando ya tienen hijos, es agradable ver una historia que se enfoca en la vida de la protagonista y podemos madurar con ella, los lectores podemos acompañarlos en sus problemas infantiles, su madurez en la adolescencia, sus tribulaciones como adultos jóvenes, como padres e incluso como profesionales, creo que cualquiera que haya trabajado con niños podrá entender a Anne a la perfección mientras trabajaba como maestra. Si bien la serie de Anne de las tejas verdes estuvo pensada para niños, creo que todas las audiencias pueden disfrutar de ellas, con situaciones que todos nos podemos identificar y con una visión de la vida positiva, enfocándose principalmente en el crecimiento de Anne así como sus opiniones, sueños, esperanza y su énfasis en la unión familiar, la importancia de las amistades y la amabilidad como personas.
I can't recommend this book enough, I am in love with this woman's characterization of characters, they are all so full of personality that they almost seem like real people, there is no perfection in any of them, not even the main character is saved from that. That particularity makes me love this book so much, Anne is so charming, I wish I had half her positivity, I mean, her childhood couldn't suck more and yet according to her her worst evil is having red hair and freckles, I wish I could see my problems the same way from time to time.
Besides presenting a charming heroine, Lucy Maud Montgomery also gives us a childhood romance, we get to see Girlbert and Anne grow from their rivalry in elementary school to their adulthood when they already have children, it is nice to see a story that focuses on the protagonist's life and we get to mature with her, we readers get to accompany them in their childhood problems, their maturity in adolescence, their tribulations as young adults, as parents and even as professionals, I think anyone who has worked with children will be able to understand Anne perfectly as she worked as a teacher. While the Anne of Green Gables series was intended for children, I think all audiences can enjoy them, with situations we can all relate to and with a positive outlook on life, focusing mainly on Anne's growth as well as her opinions, dreams, hope and her emphasis on family togetherness, the importance of friendships and kindness as people.
Eso es todo, no tengo muchas palabras para concluir porque creo que dije demasiado en la introducción. Pero les recomiendo infinitamente estos libros, todos ellos hablan de historias pequeñas y por ende no hay eventos impresionantes, a excepción de que a una de las parejas casi los atropella un tren... ¡Ja! pero no les diré quiénes, deben leer los tres libros para descubrirlo.

But I recommend these books to you infinitely, they all talk about small stories and therefore there are no impressive events, except that one of the couples almost got run over by a train.... Fue difícil encontrar este libro, tanto en inglés como en español fue una tarea imposible y terminé leyéndolo en inglés. Pero puedo decir que fue una lectura agradable y con personajes graciosos. Creo que la verdadera estrella de este libro es Freddy, en sus propias palabras no es brillante ni guapo, pero puedo asegurarles lo agradable que es como personaje. Es una persona sensible, amable, de naturaleza práctica y enemigo natural del conflicto. Si bien no adoro las tramas de “Oh, es totalmente natural manipular al objeto de mi aprecio porque de esta manera descubrirá lo imposible que es vivir sin mí”, pero creo que esta novela se salva principalmente por las interacciones entre los personajes. Es un deleite leer como Kitty, desconocida de la manera de actuar de la ciudad, descubre poco a poco cada detalle de la metrópoli y las decisiones que toma la llevan a desventuras que se hubieran podido evitar fácilmente.
Mi parte favorita de la pareja fue la sutileza, la autora no describe una historia de amor apasionada, más bien se burla de las tropas comunes del género y de lo detestable que resultaría conocer a una persona con características similares a sus héroes. Más bien es una sorpresa ver como su relación se basa en la amistad y en las interacciones, siento que los romances que inician de una amistad son los mejores, Kitty y Freddy tienen intereses en común y ambos reconocen las fortalezas y debilidades del otro, una de mis conversaciones favoritas de ellos fue cuando, a pesar de que todo el mundo dijera lo contrario, Kitty le dijo a Freddy como lo encontraba como la persona más amable y lista que conoce, hecho que él encontró como extraordinario dado a como solían describirlo. Adoro como ambos siempre están apoyándose constantemente y pensando en el bienestar del otro, es algo digno de admirar.
No obstante, debo advertir que cuando digo que es un romance sutil, en serio me refiero a eso. Hay que leer entre líneas y los sentimientos de ambos se desarrollan de manera tenue mientras avanza la trama; pero sigue siendo un buen libro para pasar el rato.
It was difficult to find this book, both in English and Spanish it was an impossible task and I ended up reading it in English. But I can say that it was an enjoyable read with funny characters. I think the real star of this book is Freddy, in his own words he is not bright or handsome, but I can assure you how likable he is as a character. He is sensitive, kind, practical in nature and a natural enemy of conflict. While I don't adore "Oh, it's totally natural to manipulate the object of my appreciation because this way he'll find out how impossible it is to live without me" plots, but I think this novel is saved mainly by the interactions between the characters. It is a delight to read how Kitty, unfamiliar with the ways of the city, gradually discovers every detail of the metropolis and the decisions she makes lead her into misadventures that could have easily been avoided.
My favorite part of the pairing was the subtlety, the author does not describe a passionate love story, rather she pokes fun at the common tropes of the genre and how detestable it would be to meet a person with similar characteristics to her heroes. Rather it is a surprise to see how their relationship is based on friendship and interactions, I feel that romances that start from a friendship are the best, Kitty and Freddy have interests in common and both recognize each other's strengths and weaknesses, one of my favorite conversations of theirs was when, despite everyone saying otherwise, Kitty told Freddy how she found him to be the kindest and smartest person she knows, a fact he found to be extraordinary given how they used to describe him. I love how the two of them are always constantly supporting each other and thinking of each other's welfare, it's something to admire.
However, I must warn that when I say it's a subtle romance, I really mean it. You have to read between the lines and the feelings of both develop in a subdued way as the plot progresses; but it's still a good book to pass the time.

No puedo recomendar lo suficiente este libro, estoy enamorada de la caracterización de personajes de esta mujer, todos ellos están tan llenos de personalidad que casi pareciera que son personas reales, no existe la perfección en ninguno de ellos, ni siquiera la protagonista se salva de eso. Esa particularidad me hace amar tanto a este libro, Anne es tan encantadora, quisiera tener la mitad de su positivismo, es decir, su infancia no podría apestar más y aun así según ella su peor mal es ser pelirroja y tener pecas, quisiera poder ver mis problemas de la misma manera de vez en cuando.
Además de presentar una heroína encantadora, también Lucy Maud Montgomery nos da un romance de la infancia, podemos ver crecer a Girlbert y Anne desde su rivalidad en primaria hasta su adultez cuando ya tienen hijos, es agradable ver una historia que se enfoca en la vida de la protagonista y podemos madurar con ella, los lectores podemos acompañarlos en sus problemas infantiles, su madurez en la adolescencia, sus tribulaciones como adultos jóvenes, como padres e incluso como profesionales, creo que cualquiera que haya trabajado con niños podrá entender a Anne a la perfección mientras trabajaba como maestra. Si bien la serie de Anne de las tejas verdes estuvo pensada para niños, creo que todas las audiencias pueden disfrutar de ellas, con situaciones que todos nos podemos identificar y con una visión de la vida positiva, enfocándose principalmente en el crecimiento de Anne así como sus opiniones, sueños, esperanza y su énfasis en la unión familiar, la importancia de las amistades y la amabilidad como personas.
I can't recommend this book enough, I am in love with this woman's characterization of characters, they are all so full of personality that they almost seem like real people, there is no perfection in any of them, not even the main character is saved from that. That particularity makes me love this book so much, Anne is so charming, I wish I had half her positivity, I mean, her childhood couldn't suck more and yet according to her her worst evil is having red hair and freckles, I wish I could see my problems the same way from time to time.
Besides presenting a charming heroine, Lucy Maud Montgomery also gives us a childhood romance, we get to see Girlbert and Anne grow from their rivalry in elementary school to their adulthood when they already have children, it is nice to see a story that focuses on the protagonist's life and we get to mature with her, we readers get to accompany them in their childhood problems, their maturity in adolescence, their tribulations as young adults, as parents and even as professionals, I think anyone who has worked with children will be able to understand Anne perfectly as she worked as a teacher. While the Anne of Green Gables series was intended for children, I think all audiences can enjoy them, with situations we can all relate to and with a positive outlook on life, focusing mainly on Anne's growth as well as her opinions, dreams, hope and her emphasis on family togetherness, the importance of friendships and kindness as people.
Eso es todo, no tengo muchas palabras para concluir porque creo que dije demasiado en la introducción. Pero les recomiendo infinitamente estos libros, todos ellos hablan de historias pequeñas y por ende no hay eventos impresionantes, a excepción de que a una de las parejas casi los atropella un tren... ¡Ja! pero no les diré quiénes, deben leer los tres libros para descubrirlo.
