[ESP/ENG] Mi homenaje a mi escritor venezolano favorito/My tribute to my favorite Venezuelan writer

Saludos hivers, quisiera con este post rendir mi humilde homenaje a un venezolano ejemplar y a quién admiro profundamente.

Un día como hoy, 26 de febrero, dejó de educarnos y enseñarnos con su ejemplo magistral el Doctor Arturo Uslar Pietri. Rara vez me perdía su programa Valores Humanos.

Greetings hivers, I would like with this post to pay my humble tribute to an exemplary Venezuelan and whom I deeply admire.
On a day like today, February 26, he stopped educating and teaching us with the masterful example of him, Doctor Arturo Uslar Pietri. I rarely missed his Human Values program.

No pretendo hacer una biografía de A. U. Pietri, en la web hay cantidades de ellas y que se pueden consultar con facilidad, en Wikipedia y otras más. Este ilustrísimo venezolano tuvo una larga vida, vivió prácticamente noventa y cinco años, apenas tres meses menos, y tuvo una vida llena de éxitos como escritor y participó activamente en la construcción de la Venezuela de mediados del siglo XX.

Arturo Uslar Pietri trabajó con el gobierno de Isaías Medina Angarita y contribuyó inmensamente a las reformas que este último comenzó a hacer en nuestro país, incluso, el mismo Pietri, dijo que Medina Angarita fue el presidente más democrático que ha tenido Venezuela en toda la historia y que le dio un impulso a la libertad política dándole espacios a todos los partidos de esa época.

I do not intend to make a biography of A. U. Pietri, there are many of them on the web and they can be easily consulted, in Wikipedia and others. This most illustrious Venezuelan had a long life, he lived practically ninety-five years, just three months less, and he had a life full of successes as a writer and actively participated in the construction of Venezuela in the mid-twentieth century. Arturo Uslar Pietri worked with the government of Isaías Medina Angarita and contributed immensely to the reforms that the latter began to make in our country, even Pietri himself said that Medina Angarita was the most democratic president that Venezuela has had in all history and that it gave a boost to political freedom by giving space to all the parties of that time.

A. U. Pietri tuvo que salir del país con la caída del gobierno de Angarita, se fue a los Estados Unidos y allí él vivió lo que llamaba paradójicamente lo peor y lo mejor que le pudo pasar. Él era un hombre adelantado a su tiempo, siempre cuando tenía la oportunidad expresaba su famosa frase "Hay que sembrar el petróleo", nunca le hicieron caso, Pietri vaticinó el desastre en que caería Venezuela muchos años antes de que sucediera.

A este gran hombre siempre le preocupó la identidad del venezolano, decía que nosotros realmente no teníamos identidad, que éramos producto de muchas razas y culturas, pero a la vez dentro de esa mezcla compleja de elementos el venezolano se perdía en conseguir su propia identidad.

Pietri had to leave the country with the fall of the Angarita government, he went to the United States and there he lived what he paradoxically called the worst and the best that could happen to him. He was a man ahead of his time, whenever he had the opportunity he would express his famous phrase "We must sow oil", they never listened to him, Pietri predicted the disaster that Venezuela would fall into many years before it happened.
This great man was always concerned about the identity of the Venezuelan, he said that we really did not have an identity, that we were the product of many races and cultures, but at the same time, within that complex mixture of elements, the Venezuelan lost himself in achieving his own identity.

Para mí Arturo Uslar Pietri es uno de los hombres más grandes, más inteligentes y más honestos que ha tenido este país, que lástima que hombres como él ya prácticamente no hay en Venezuela, quizás en esta nueva generación de jóvenes haya algunos, ojalá, y que puedan enrumbar al país hacia el desarrollo.

Recomiendo a todos, y principalmente a los venezolanos, que no conozcamos un poco más sobre este verdadero gigante de la Venezuela social, política e intelectual.

For me Arturo Uslar Pietri is one of the biggest, smartest and most honest men that this country has had, what a pity that there are practically no men like him in Venezuela, perhaps in this new generation of young people there are some, hopefully, and that can guide the country towards development.
I recommend to everyone, and especially to Venezuelans, that we not know a little more about this true giant of social, political and intellectual Venezuela.
