Abordar temas como el racismo, segregación y clasismo no siempre es fácil, está la persona que se ofende con facilidad, quien lo trata como insignificante y el que lo tomo como tabú para no entrar en debate, sin embargo, el hecho de ignorarlo o burlarte de el no significa que no exista. La escritora Kathryn Stockett realizó un muy buen trabajo abordando este tema al escribir esta libro, a pesar de haber sido rechazado por muchos agentes literarios, su obra logró ser publicada en el año 2009 y tubo una adaptación cinematográfica en el 2011 llamada "Historias Cruzadas", de no haber sido por ella no habría conocido este libro que me sacó muchas lagrimas. Claro en un principio la película me robó mi atención al tener como protagonista a Emma Stone en el personaje de "Skeeter" y a Octavia Spencer como Minny Jackson, con base en haber leído el libro, puedo decir estas fabulosas actrices le dieron vida como se debía a sus personajes.
Addressing issues such as racism, segregation and classism is not always easy, there is the person who is easily offended, who treats it as insignificant and who takes it as taboo to not enter into debate, however, the fact of ignoring or mocking it does not mean it does not exist. The writer Kathryn Stockett did a very good job addressing this issue by writing this book, despite having been rejected by many literary agents, her work managed to be published in 2009 and had a film adaptation in 2011 called "Crossed Stories", had it not been for her I would not have known this book that brought me many tears. Of course at first the movie stole my attention by having Emma Stone as the main character of "Skeeter" and Octavia Spencer as Minny Jackson, based on having read the book, I can say that these fabulous actresses gave life to their characters as they should.
El ambiente del libro se desenvuelve en USA, Jackson, Misisipi, a principios de los años 60, época y lugar donde ser de tes morena era prácticamente un castigo ya que casi la única opción de vida era trabajar como sirvientes para personas blancas, quienes en su mayoría trataban con desdén, inferioridad y hasta violencia a estas personas.
The setting of the book takes place in the USA, Jackson, Mississippi, in the early 60's, a time and place where being brown was practically a punishment since almost the only option in life was to work as servants for white people, who for the most part treated these people with disdain, inferiority and even violence.

A estas criadas nunca se les pregunto como se sentía criar niños ajenos mientras los suyos estaban en casa, que se sentía ser negros en una sociedad blanca, nunca les preguntaron el que pensaban cuando las explotaban, o cuando las leyes y sociedad las hacía sentir menos por ser mujeres negras y pobres. Este libro toca todo esto y más, contándonos la historia de como criadas se armaron de valor para contar sus historias, todo gracias a la iniciativa de una joven caucásica acomodada que rompió las expectativas de lo que se esperaba de ella como joven moza de la época.
These maids were never asked how it felt to raise other people's children while their own were at home, what it felt like to be black in a white society, they were never asked what they thought when they were exploited, or when the laws and society made them feel lesser for being black and poor women. This book touches on all this and more, telling the story of how maids found the courage to tell their stories, all thanks to the initiative of an affluent young Caucasian woman who broke the expectations of what was expected of her as a young wench of the time.
Dentro de la historia un libro cusa revuelo, dejando a la luz secretos y algunas revelaciones. Siempre seré mas partidaria de los libros que de las películas ya que estos te muestran detalles importantes o interesantes acerca que la historia, ademas hay sucesos del libro que son omitidos en la películas ya sea por falta de tiempo o recursos. Entre las incógnitas que podrás descubrir por tu cuenta en el libro que no te muestran en la película son por ejemplo, a que se debe el apodo de Eugenia Phelan, "Skeeter", o también cual es la historia real de la sirvienta negra que crió a Skeeter, por qué desapareció y la imagen real de su misteriosa hija, además el por qué de la apariencia de esta y las razones para esconderla, también se encuentra una valiente y cómico suceso entre Minny Jackson y su nueva señora a quien le trabaja, Celia Foote, suceso que estrechará sus lazos y cambiará la perspectiva sobre la imagen de alguna de las 2.
Within the story a book causes a stir, bringing to light secrets and some revelations. I will always be more in favor of books than movies because they show you important or interesting details about the story, plus there are events in the book that are omitted in the movies either for lack of time or resources. Among the unknowns that you can discover on your own in the book that are not shown in the movie are, for example, what is Eugenia Phelan's nickname, "Skeeter", or what is the real story of the black maid who raised Skeeter, why she disappeared and the real image of her mysterious daughter, Also, there is a brave and comical event between Minny Jackson and her new mistress who works for Celia Foote, an event that will tighten their bonds and change the perspective on the image of either of the two.
Puede que el acto de valor de estas criadas y de Skeeter no cambie nada con respecto a las leyes o el trato recibido en las casas donde trabajan, pero al menos tienen un voz, cosa que muchos de sus antepasados ni siquiera se les fue otorgado. Aunque no tengo la certeza de que las historias contadas en este libro son reales, si es definitivo que muestra la vida de una mujer de color de aquella época y muestra de las cosas difíciles que les toco vivir. Es basado en situaciones reales, al igual que en aquella época las mujeres blancas solo aspiraban a casarse y tener hijos lo cuales criaría la sirvienta, mientras ellas hacen vida social y juegan a las cartas, en cambio las personas de color iban a la escuela hasta tener edad suficiente para trabajar, a pesar de ya no ser esclavos, ellos no podían aspirar ganar al menos un suelto mínimo sin importar que tan demandante fuera el trabajo. Ejemplos de todo esto se encuentran claramente expresados en este libro.
The act of courage of these maids and Skeeter may not change anything about the laws or the treatment received in the houses where they work, but at least they have a voice, something that many of their ancestors were not even given. Although I am not certain that the stories told in this book are real, it is definite that it shows the life of a woman of color of that time and shows the difficult things they had to live through. It is based on real situations, as at that time white women only aspired to get married and have children which would raise the maid, while they make social life and play cards, while people of color went to school until they were old enough to work, although they were no longer slaves, they could not aspire to earn at least a minimum wage no matter how demanding the work was. Examples of all this are clearly expressed in this book.
Al leer este libro experimente una mezcla de emociones, tales como tristeza, ira, amor, nostalgia, felicidad e impotencia, cada uno expresándose a medida que iba avanzando en el texto, hay personajes transitorios que te enseñan que no todo es malo o que está perdido. Además este libro nos enseña el valor de la valentía (valga la redundancia) y que las clases sociales no te hacen mejor persona, la actitud y respeto que tienes hacia otros son lo que te definen como ser humano, y eso de por si es lo que determina si eres mejor o peor persona en calidad como individuo.
When reading this book I experienced a mixture of emotions, such as sadness, anger, love, nostalgia, happiness and helplessness, each one expressing itself as I progressed through the text, there are transitory characters that teach you that not everything is bad or lost. In addition, this book teaches us the value of courage and that social classes do not make you a better person, the attitude and respect you have towards others are what define you as a human being, and that in itself is what determines whether you are a better or worse person as an individual.

The topic of racism is unfortunately present today with everything that happens in politics and workers rights, I read a synopsis of the book and I think it was written at that time when they were still beginning to gather all these thoughts that "racism is bad", I'm still going to take a look at it as soon as I can get it. Good post!
The book was written in 2011, but it is based on the era of the early 60's, it is true, there is still racism, but not like back then, what we see today are the aftermath of the wounds caused.

Esta historia es muy emotiva, hasta ahora he visto solo la adaptación cinematográfica y me conmovió en muchos aspectos.
