Los Asquerosos, es una novela que narra la historia de Manuel, un jóven que huye de Madrid tras apuñalar a un policía antidisturbios luego de que esté lo confundiera con los manifestantes y quisiera pegarle. Asustado por creer que lo había asesinado, Manuel escapa a una pequeña aldea, manteniendo contacto solo con un familiar, su tío, allí habita una casa que carece de los servicios básicos, sin agua, sin luz, sin calefacción, e inclusive sin tiendas para realizar las compras.

De esta manera, comienza una vida en austeridad, alimentándose solo de los vegetales que crecen alrededor de la vivienda y con los insumos que su tío compraba para él en Lidl. Este estilo de vida hace que Manuel se encuentre consigo mismo, disfrutando cada vez más su nueva forma de vivir, conociendo una libertad que le era desconocida y una vida subestimada. Hasta este punto del libro, el autor refleja una introspección del protagonista, donde logra comprender que cuánto menos tiene menos necesita.

Sin embargo, pronto un suceso cambiará la tranquilidad de Manuel, ya que una familia decide comprar la casa de al lado para rehabilitarla. Realmente lo es, está novela te lleva a una reflexión profunda, partiendo de un hecho fortuito nos enseña a valorar aspectos de la vida que en circunstancias normales no apreciamos.
