Dogs And Their Shadows.

Many folks are getting out and walking or biking now that the weather has finally turned beautiful on my little island.

At present the virus is under control and shops are starting to open. People are out and about and mindful of the social distancing.

Many walkers have a dog, big or small, with them.

I met this greyhound on the Confederation Trail. He was taking his keeper for a walk. They seemed to cast a nice shadow.

This is my selection for the Shadow Contest.

The well-mannered greyhound was originally from Alabama, U.S. He has been with his devoted keeper about seven years and says he is a great pet. The keeper agreed and said they go for a walk nearly every day.

Another dog leading his keeper who was having a hard time keeping him under control.

The dog looked like he might attack but he is just young and rambunctious. His keeper kept him on a short leash and said the dog was excited to see other dogs and wanted to play.

Oh, how delightful! Your pussy willows are really almost on the other side of done! Well, technically, they are now flowers and going to seed!

Well played, Jo! I hope you had a wonderful weekend, seems like our new normal is not too bad at the moment. Perhaps because I am staying away from the city! :)

Have a lovely week and you can throw in a flower, whenever the mood strikes you!

Hi Denise. I’m happy you liked the pussy willows. They were late this year with a cold spring.

We are getting used to the new normal and still surviving. Shops and restaurants are starting to open with new regulations. It’s good you are staying out of the city.

Thanks for your kind remarks and the tip.😊

It is very nice to know that little by little the situation is becoming more flexible in some countries.

Love these shadow shots and I'm glad the greyhound thinks his keeper is a good pet! 😂
It's so nice to know that you are able to get out and enjoy the nice weather.
And your pussy willow photo is lovely. I missed seeing any this year.

I’m laughing now Melinda at how it reads like the keeper is a good pet.😂

There didn’t seem to be many pussy willows this year and I was happy to come across these ones.

It is nice to move around and the weather here is cooperating. I hope you are enjoying the same. ❤️

Most likely that IS how the dog views the relationship!

They have been forced to open things up here, but many predicting it is not safe yet so I am staying home, and since I rather like to be here, I'm OK with that!
We will see if the number of cases increase in the next few weeks

Yes, it’s better to be safe at home than catch this Covid-19. They keep talking about a second wave.

My sister who lives in Nova Scotia cannot go into New Brunswick to her cottage for the summer even if she isolated there for 14 days. There’s strict regulations between the Maritime provinces.

That's hard, especially when I'm sure she knows that there are things that need to be done there. I remember how long the list of springtime chores was when we had a cabin up north. Here even bars and campgrounds have re-opened for those who refuse to take this seriously. We will see what comes of it.

Rose and her hubby are anxious to check out the cottage. There’s always a surprise that has to be fixed!

Since they retired they were staying there all summer. Some cottagers live there all year around and keep an eye out and our brother lives in the nearby village but she would still like to be there herself. It may be August or later before anyone gets through.

That must be stressful for her. I know I would be worrying about the place. So much can happen over a long winter. I hope when she does get there she finds that everything is OK.

On first sight I thought the shadow of the greyhound looks like a little pig with a long nose, but son't tell this the dog ;)
Young dogs want to play and this one is certainly strong and not easy to hold - in a few weeks he will have learned who's the boss ... or showed him that he is ;)

It's great that you are loosening your measures slowly - the most important thing is, that while enjoying getting back to normal life the people are aware, that the enemy is still around.

Have a great day Jo, and take care 😊

You are right Johann, the shadow could be mistaken for a little pig. I wouldn’t tell the greyhound as he seemed the sensitive kind. ;)

I saw the other dog later with his master walking down the main street and still holding on tightly to the leash. That dog needs to go to obedience school to learn to heel.

Now the weather is nice I think people are becoming more optimistic and happy they can enjoy the outdoors.

Thanks Johann and have a wonderful Tuesday.😊

Hello Jo,

yes, please don't tell the dog, because I don't like my shadow sometimes myself, what would the dog think if you told him his shadow looks like a pig ;)
Who needs this school - the dog or his master? Sounds funny, and I meant it funny, but in some Austrian states you need for some dogs a license, just like a drivers license (Rottweiler, Pitbullterrier, Bullterrier, American Staffordshire Terrier and some more).

Yes, optimism is good and having fun too, but I believe we all need to still be careful at least for a while.

I wish you the same wonderful Tuesday too 🙂

I’ve tried 3x to reply and it keeps disappearing so this one will be shorter,😭

You are right, even in jest, the master needs some lessons on how to control his dog. Years ago, another lifetime away, I had a beagle dog who was a bad actor. A few sessions at the dog obedience school did him good and he would finally come when I called him.😆 Seriously it was good and after the first night the dogs knew what they were there for and behaved.

In cities a 15 dollar license is required for dogs. I don’t think they bother in the smaller places.

I’m closing off before this vanishes.

Have a lovely evening. :)

I have had the same problem just before, but it seems to work again :)

I think it's very good when dog owners go to such lessons or schools with their dogs, because just buying and owning a dog is not enough - the master has to learn how to behave to be a good master and the dog has to learn he is the dog and a friend and what the master says is an order ... although the dog cannot tell if the order is good or bad. Even the smallest dog can hurt very bad, believe me, my right index finger will never again get too close to a tiny little Chihuahua ;) lol

Here you have to pay a monthly or yearly fee for each dog. The price is different from state to state. They even have been talking about a fee for cats, but I don't think such will ever come.

I can see one more reply from you - so I go on there ;)

I’d like to have a dog again but right now the 2 cats are enough. Certain municipalities will want owners to license their cats but not here on the Island. When I lived in Whitby, Ontario there was a inspector come to the house and ask if I had any dogs or cats. Cats were suppose to be registered there. Not everyone admitted to having a cat. LOL

Hope your afternoon went well. 😊

Hi Jo,

a dog would be nice to have, but we are both working and the children are not at home either, so a dog would be much alone and very sad I believe. In an apartment it's easier with cats. But maybe when we retire we'll move to my parent's house where we could have a dog too, but it is still long till then.

To have a dog and two cats would be too much for me also I think - I wouldn't know for which to care more ;)

I'm still at work, but we have a nice day. Hope you have a good day too.

I would be lost without some kind of an animal but find cats are easier. With the two cats we can go to my sister for a few days and they are okay. When I had one it would get lonesome.

I was out working at my flower garden and was thinking it might be nice to live in an apartment and not have to worry about the garden and lawns. Just lock the door and not worry about the outside maintenance .😄

You are working later. Have a good evening Johann.😊

Yeah, My family thinks the same and we are waiting hard for our two new kittens. I am glad that they have decided to get two, because as you say one would get lonesome, although our Whiskey didn't seem to be so lonely. He slept all day long and then he woke up when someone came home :)

OK, if you want to change to an apartment, let's do it. I promise my wife will take care of your garden. In exchange you will have to take care of the few flowers on our balcony ;) lol
I know there's always a lot of work to do when you have a house, but this work is so different from other work, because you do it for yourself. On the other hand you don't get paid for doing it ;)

I’ll be happy to see photos of your kittens. I had one cat, Angel, left alone in the house for two days but with food and water. She cried at me for a day when we got back home. That was when Red came into the household so she would have company. Angel was 16 and didn’t live much longer.

I think I wore myself out in the flower garden trying to pull weeds and trim some bushes but the balcony idea sounds great. 😊

We have to wait a few weeks until they are old enough to leave their mother, but then I will certainly make photos and a post.
When we left for holidays a neighbor looked for our cat, so he has never been long alone. She visited him several times a day, but still he was glad when we came back home :)

I'll ask my daughter tomorrow for her reason to go to Canada. If she smiles I'll know it ;) lol If I tell her to change with you she will certainly run to her room and begin packing 😉

I wish you a good night, Jo 🙂

Thanks @bigsambucca. We have no virus cases on the Island but regulations are strict. No one is allowed on or off the Island only if essential. Then tests are taken and 14 day quarantine.

Hi Angie. It seemed every second person I met on the walk had a dog with them. Pets have been great company since the pandemic kept everyone home.
