Lord, The Dark Shadow, As Darkness Sets In. || Contest Entry.

Today a dark shadow followed me
and I could not shake it off,
Yet there was no reason
for all this darkness.

And you, Dear Lord,
let me remain in this darkness all day,
you thought it right
to let me suffer through this.

Now, its past midnight,
and pressure is slowly lifting,
I am being liberated
and I can feel your presence again.

I am on your level again,
but suddenly it dawns on me
that I was on your level all the time
without noticing it.
And I realize
how important it was to go through that.

How else could I learn to share your sufferings?
How else could my life ever have the weightiness
that your life had?
I would only increase your suffering
with my superficiality.

Now I can praise you as the shadow
and as the liberator,
as the one who strikes us
but also as the healer,
as the stranger who pushes us away
but at the same time
as the friend reaching out to us.
I praise you as the one who takes us
to depth of insight we have not reached before
and as the one who wants to share hid darkness
his suffering and pain with us,
if we are willing.

And looking at you
I overcome
and I am overcome
by your light
dispelling all darkness.

I am broken yet I fly
I deny all heights and depths
and break into your kingdom of light.
I am held by you in the certainty of loving you
and wanting to love you
whatever might be happening around me.

I have decided to experience richness of life
in spite of many difficulties
and even when I become weak
and can't see any more,
when I stagger and reel,
I will cling to my faith
and my experiences with you
will carry me through

Keep me, Lord,
