Let's start our tour of Los Caobos Park, located on the grounds of one of the oldest haciendas in Caracas, La Industrial. For the year 1810, the beginning of the independence of Venezuela, this hacienda was a cocoa emporium; a prosperous cocoa plantation administered by French citizens, who had to abandon it because of the attacks of the Venezuelan war of independence, later these fertile lands were occupied by the royalist forces, being General Gerardo Patrullo who, at that time, he seized it and proceeded to change its name, calling it “Hacienda La Guía”. It should be noted that the aforementioned general was a friend of Domingo Monteverde, defender of the rights of the Spanish Crown in this Continent. By the way, there is a chronicle kept in the General Archive of the Nation that ensures that General Gerardo Patrullo, in addition to changing the name of the Hacienda, made some changes, and even raised the flag of Spain in the center of the estate, giving for granted that this territory was Spanish property. It is presumed that the Captain General of Venezuela himself, imposed by the King of Spain and staunch defender of the interests of the Crown, Juan Domingo de Monteverde (1773- 1832), he stayed briefly on that farm in 1812 and then so did General Pablo Morillo in 1819.

With the Venezuelan War of Independence, the situation in the homeland was not easy for the royalists, not only because of the constant attacks by the patriots, but also because of the costly maintenance of the expeditionary army, for that reason there was a period of confiscation of properties for with these revenues to finance the army. It is believed that the Hacienda I am writing about today was among the 205 estates confiscated by the King's armies. Continuing with the history of the old Hacienda, I must mention that when the Battle of Carabobo, was fought on June 24, 1821, General Gerardo Patrullo he fled the country leaving the property in the hands of the patriots. Later, and by order of the then President, José Antonio Páez the relatives of the Patriot Army Officer Ambrosio Plaza, who died in battle, became the owners of the hacienda.

Returning to the history of the Hacienda, where today the Los Caobos de Caracas Park is located, I must mention that by the year 1865 the hacienda was in ruins, practically abandoned, which generated its sale to the brothers Bernardino and José Antonio Mosquera, who turned it into a large coffee farm called “La Guía-La Industria” or, as many called it in fact, “Hacienda Mosquera”. According to information collected by the author of the post, the need to obtain protective shade for the coffee plantation led the new owners to plant many mahogany trees brought from Santo Domingo for that reason today the Park has that name, in honor of the trees. In 1905 José Antonio Mosquera died, who was buried on his own grounds in a coffin made at his request, with wood from one of his mahogany trees.
For the year 1924, General Juan Vicente Gómez expropriated the farm "La Guía-La Industria", belonging to the succession of José Antonio Mosquera, for the amount of four hundred thousand bolivars, to be transformed into a pleasant public park which he called " Parque Sucre ”, which was inaugurated on December 9 of the same year within the framework of the centenary of the Battle of Ayacucho.

In 1933 the "Avenida Los Caobos" was built for motor vehicle traffic through the park and in 1937 the Municipal Council of Caracas, decided to change the name to "Avenida Mosquera", in memory of Mr. José Antonio Mosquera, former owner of the ranch; Furthermore, in that same year the Municipal Council changed the name to Los Caobos given the large number of these trees that existed on the site since colonial times. In 1943, under the Presidency of the General Isaías Medina Angarita, it was donated by the nation to the Municipality of the Federal District. At present, the Park is closed to the automobile fleet and only works as a place of recreation for citizens. It is a place full of nature and art for the enjoyment, outdoors, of the whole family.

That's one beautifully designed park! It's great that there are accessible parks like this one in the city that had a rich history. The east entrance gate in the photo you were in, looks so tall and massive. Love being surrounded by mahogany trees.

Hello Arni @discoveringarni I greet you with respect and affection from Venezuela. That door is made of iron and the main wall of concrete but it is not the main door since the real entrance is through the Museum Square. The truth is that people can also enter or leave there depending on where you are going using the beauty of the Park. The tour is beautiful, fresh and full of life. Thank you for your comment and for your support. God bless you always.

Hey @marcosmilano71 hope you're doing well. The stroll in such a beautiful park is such a refreshment. I loved the presence of water bodies, sculptures, nicely maintained green patched of grass and plants, the fountains. All such elements create a joyful experience for users.
Wonderful publications, have a great weekend:)
