Teacher asks
Possible student answer
You can say next
What can you see?
“I can see animals and people.”
“Good! What animals can you see?”
What place do you think this is?
“A zoo.”
“Yes! It’s a zoo. Have you ever been to a zoo?”
What animals can you see?
“I can see a lion, elephant, and monkey.”
“Very good! Which one is your favorite?”
How many children can you see?
“I can see three children.”
“Good! What are they doing?”
What are the children doing?
“They are looking at the animals.”
“Right! How do you think they feel?”
What is the weather like?
“It’s sunny.”
“Yes! Would you like to visit the zoo on a sunny day?”
What else can you see?
“I can see trees and a pond.”
“Excellent! What animals can you see near the pond?”
Which animal do you like most?
“I like the elephant.”
“Why do you like elephants?”
If the child says only:
“Elephant.”
You can gently expand:
“Good! You like the elephant. Why do you like the elephant?”
