Album of the Day: The Comet Is Coming - Trust in the Lifeforce of the Deep Mystery

Alright I'll admit, Snarky Puppy is cool, but they've been around for a while and everything they do kind of end up sounding the same by now. Jazz fusion funk has its limits, at least when you play with huge ensembles. I could say the same about Gogo Penguin and Mammal Hands (which I both adore), I feel like their signature is so unique that its recognizable in everyone of their songs, maybe too much, and it all kind of start sounding similar, even though the compositions are vastly different.

Wait, I know what I need! I understand what is missing to this various neo jazz bands that I crave but didn't know about until now! Add some psychedelic elements to it, some improv', a drop of insanity -if not sanity, and here we go!

They skillfully blend Nu jazz, funk rock, psychedelic rock, electronic rock, space rock with ambient elements and spoken word. Listening to a whole album, any of them really, is a trip by itself, but being present for a live performance is priceless!

Their second full-length album, Trust in the Lifeforce of the Deep Mystery, was released in March 2019 and received critical acclaim, with The Quietus noting the importance of Sun Ra and Alice Coltrane on their sound while acknowledging that "rather than being weighed down by those legacies, The Comet Is Coming have turned them into fuel, accelerating their sound, and with it, the sound of jazz today."

Overall an amazing psychedelic jazz experience for you to have. It reminds me of King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard, but if they played Jazz.
