Self-care during lockdown

Self-care is something very important for every individual. It doesn't mean that we are selfish if we take care of ourselves. Doing things on our own and taking good care of ourselves is something that we can also learn from our elders. My grandfather and my Guru is a good example for that. I learnt Ayurveda from my guru and when I went to learn he was 94 years old. I got the opportunity to learn only for two months and I treasure everything I learnt from him. He used to talk a lot about self care.

Ayurveda also insists a lot about self-care and taking care of this body. If we keep the body well and right our thoughts and mind can be good and it will be able to focus on other things. At the age of 94, my Guru was able to do all his activities by himself. When I went to learn something from him, I did not learn any medicines from him but he did teach me a lot about self-care and the basic living and how we should consider this body as a very important tool and nurture it till the end. That was indeed a great experience I should say.

During lockdown

I should say that this lockdown can be considered as one good opportunity to take care of ourselves. Most of us are not eating fast food or outside food and we end up cooking by ourselves or by family members. That's one good opportunity to keep our food habits good. This also gives a good opportunity towards self care and if we feel we are not healthy in any aspect we can take this opportunity to heal ourselves.

On the normal days we might have a life with perfect routine. With this lockdown the routine would have got disturbed and we might look forward to get adapted to a new routine. While trying to do it, we can possibly look forward to adapt to a new healthy routine. I don't mean to say that the routine we were following earlier was not good but it's time to think through and alter our routine in such a way that it can be a better one than before.

We have to be healthy to take care of others

The current situation is in such a way that there can be a crisis where one person will need to take care of the other person. If we don't stay strong and immune, we will not be able to take care of others. The best thing is to first focus on ourselves and get things right and try to help others. To explain this with an example I would say that if we don't have the habit of washing our hands regularly and especially when we go outside or to any risky place like hospitals, we will fail from both taking care of ourselves as well as people around us.

Some of the things can be a little tough because it is kind of nature for someone to not take care of themselves too much but to worry a lot about others and try to help others more than themselves. In this case we shouldn't end up like a career for this deadly disease by missing some of the basics like washing hands and personal hygiene etc.

To conclude, let's use this opportunity to alter some basic self-care things in our life and be safe and secure so that when there is a need to help someone else, we can be ready for the same.

I was really neglecting this aspect of my life just with an excuse of am too busy to do this and that. But during this lockdown,i was very disheartened of how I never had time for my physical and mental health. Being conscious of this fact has improved my self care greatly even after the ease of the total lock down.

That's good to hear. In my case, I'm still finding it very hard to take care of myself. This lockdown has made me even lazier compared to earlier. No physical activity at all. I was discussing with my wife that we should at least be going for walking daily. Let's see. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

It is wonderful to know somebody with the same taste for Yoga and self.

I had developed some serious problem during lockdown. It was very painful. I tried some Kriya as well as Hatha Yoga for 15 days and the whole system seems to rejuvenate.

Equalilly greatful to know your father and Guru🙏

Glad to know about you. I have to be very honest with you that I have not been practicing Yoga because of laziness. I learned so much and I even got an MSc degree in Yoga. But without practicing it, none of the learning is of any use.

I'm glad that you were able to do some Kriya and Hatha. That's nice and the results are definitely evident. ❤️

@bala41288

Great topic ;)

As a yoga teacher can say that looking into alternative healing techniques is the best we can do for our self ;)

Nothing more important then our well-being here on that earth...

I completely agree with you. Yes if we can take care of ourselves, I believe taking care of others and helping them naturally wouldn't be a problem at all. Good to know that you are a Yoga teacher. Cheers!!

By taking care of ourselves we take care of the others without even noticing it. We tend to forget how important we are to some people and that their well being is closely related to how we feel...
