I've now been back in the gym consistently for 2 months

2 Months of Fitness.jpg

Feeling better than ever 🦾

Inviting fitness back into my life has been one of my best decisions in quite a while. I made a video and wrote about forcing myself to get active again about 2 months ago. Then last month I wrote about my progress up until then. Today I am back to talking about my time back in the gym. It has now been just over 2 months since I got back in there for the first time in a few years.

I had been missing working out for a while, but I kept putting it off. Thankfully @flowerbaby got herself a membership and encouraged me to either go with her there or get my own at the gym nearest to me. I have been alternating between two different gyms. I go to my Snap Fitness by myself throughout the week. Then on the weekends, I go with @flowerbaby to Planet Fitness. I like mixing up my environment and being able to take advantage of the equipment/machines that are exclusive to either of the gyms.

Most of the time I've been going after work. I tend to get there around 7 pm and then am out of there by 8 or 8:30. Plenty of time to work up a good sweat and build some solid muscle.

I go at least 4 days a week and sometimes more. I cycle through my different muscle groups and usually just focus on the areas of my body that are not still sore from the previous days. I squeeze in some cardio during pretty much every workout. Sometimes I will do a day where it is nothing but 30 or so minutes of cardio. There were even a few nights where I did 7 miles total of cardio.

I've noticed myself not only feeling better but being able to increase my weight steadily on pretty much every exercise. This to me shows that I am making undeniable progress. I'm not trying to be a bodybuilder, I really just don't want to become a fat slug who barely gets around. I've been fast and agile my entire life, I would prefer to never lose those abilities.

We can examine the charts below and notice several things. The first chart, it shows that I am staying consistent with my exercise. I have some off days and sometimes I don't wear my Apple Watch all day. The information here gives a decent idea of my productivity in the gym.

This next chart is all about heart rate. I am impressed to see that a few times I was able to get my heart rate over 190 BPM. I am able to push myself to pretty high limits, I don't cut corners. If I'm going to dedicate some of my precious time to get in better shape, I'm going to give it my best shot.

After 2 months of getting back to it, I'm very proud of myself. I will continue to remain on this journey and update here every so often. I'm a long way away from posting a bunch of shirtless selfies flexing my muscles, but I'm happy with myself and that is what matters most. I look forward to seeing where I am at several months from now. One area I think that deserves more focus is abdomen exercises. I used to easily get all of my ab fitness in back in the day when I taught aerial yoga. I don't do nearly as much as I was back then.

Always keep a goal that way things don't get stagnant. Alright, thanks a lot for stopping by and reading about my fitness progress. Let's do this again soon.

🤣😂 too funny. These are literally the only photos of me at the gym that I had. @flowerbaby for some reason randomly took these while I was throwing something away.

Hey, me too! going for the 3rd month! Whenever I think about quitting I just say to myself "right, I will go today, and tomorrow I think about quitting". The secret for consistency is not quitting today and leaving it for tomorrow!

I am just not confident about posting pics of me yet, but maybe in one year if I keep not quitting haha

Great job! Keep at it, this stuff is great for us.
I don't feel like I'm quite in the best shape of my life, but I won't let that make me afraid to show myself. Being covered in tattoos helps a lot too 😅

That's dope! I didn't know it was sending you notifications. I feel like I can now be even more consistent, but I'm happy with the last few months. 2022 I'm about to be going all year long!

It's good to see you make positive changes in your life before it becomes an issue. I got seriously lazy in my 30's and it was actually Facebook of all things that finally encouraged me to get off my ass and chance that about myself. It was when it showed some picture of 7 years ago or something and I suddenly realized that I had put on a massive amount of weight. It sneaks up on you over the course of many years and it's much more difficult to take it off later in life. Therefore, it is really great that you decided to nip this in the bud before it is too late. Hopefully it becomes a lifestyle for you and it appears as though it has become precisely that!

I’m extremely lucky to have been athletic and thin pretty much my entire life. I was 100% getting lazy and too comfortable with a lack of exercise in my life. Powering through that lazy state has allowed me to already do things I could never do in the past. I was a vegetarian during the the years that I’ve ever been in the gym consistently during my 20s. Now that I’ve been eating an abundance of meat for a few years now. I can tell a drastic difference in my strength. Although I’ve only been back at it for 2 months, I’m already past levels of strength that I had gained during my aerial yoga teaching and gym going days of 2015-2018.

Only thing that sucks about being 170lbs instead of 140lbs is that it’s much harder to pump out 20+ pull ups and 100 push ups. I’m afraid to try at this weight.

I’m making progress and not being a lazy POS, truly that’s all that matters. I like to eat good food, that’s my weakness. Luckily I never drink alcohol without even having to try not to.

You gotta get in there. As soon as you start smashing through your previous bests, you’ll find the need to go several times a week at least.

Great look bro,you are really looking, excersise is very good for the body,I love to look muscular though but I have never for once visit the gym all I do at home everyday is that I make sure I hit 200-300 push ups everyday and that what I have been doing for that past two years to keep fit and again my not too big look is not really motivating to go to the gym cos I feel I will loose more weight which is something I am afraid of although i don't miss my regular push up.seeing how you are looking is doing me like I should hit the gym instantly.nice bro!keep it up.

I'd rather feel muscular than look it if I had to choose one or the other. 200-300 push-ups are a fantastic routine. That alone will provide you with a lot of growth, especially if done consistently. I was underweight most of my life, so I understand not wanting to lose even more weight. I have started eating a lot more and am now at a comfortable weight.

What is stopping you from starting your training again now?

I was basically training since 17yo till 23yo, then after covid started I panicked, got scared and anxious and started drinking beers. Since then I've been drinking everyday (now im 26yo so thats 3 years of drinking). 2 days ago I decided to stop drinking and go back to healthy lifestyle, but my health is fucked. My liver is destroyed and I have all the side effects of alcohol withdrawal. Probably gonna take a while since I get my health back. Fuck alcohol man. 23 years sober, then suddenly I became alcohol addict, and now I need to fight this. Gonna be a tough road, and even I'm not sure If I can keep up with being sober, but I'm gonna fight for it. If I give up now then I will have no future.

Oh no, beer goes straight to the belly. Congrats on finally deciding to top, that will be a wise decision. You will be feeling strong again soon, just have to right through the various stages of being without alcohol.
I had 18 years of sobriety and then binge dranks from 18-21. I luckily snapped out of it and feel so much better without drinking much ever at all.

Thanks man, I'm gonna try my best to keep up with being sober. Good that u didn't go the bad way. I guess most young man thinks alcohol is fun, but then everyone needs to make the decision.

Society tricks young men into believing they need alcohol, but we do not.
