Dua Lipa: The Groovy is becoming popular again

If you live on this planet, you must have heard this name: Dua Lipa. Not a common name because she was born in Kosovo, and surprisingly press and media find her name hard to pronounce. With a net worth of 16M at her 25 years old, a beauty that can leave anyone breathless and killer pop songs, she has become an iconic star.

Dua Lipa's vocal range goes from G#2 – D5 – A5, approximately 3 octaves. She's a mezzo-soprano, and in her songs, you can find nice graves and also high notes. Actually, what's funny is when she was little she was told she would never be a famous singer because of her low register.

I find out about her, in the same way as any other artist, by casualty. I checked the latest hits on Billboard top, deleting everything that sounds repetitive and "the same sugary commercial sound," and I found "New Rules."

New Rules

One: Don't pick up the phone
You know he's only callin' 'cause he's drunk and alone
Two: Don't let him in
You have to kick him out again
Three: Don't be his friend
You know you're gonna wake up in his bed in the mornin'
And if you're under him, you ain't gettin' over him

If you like pop, you will remember a very famous song called Lean on, and somehow the drop of both songs had the same vibes. However, her voice was soooooo unique and new. So I got her first disc, "Dua Lipa," and I started to study the songs. And I loved it. Not deep lyrics, mainly about love and relationships, but damn, they were wrapped in a very nice coat of music in different genres.

I really love this other song called Mwah, it's insanely groovy, and I love the synth they're using here too. In this case, she just talking about being herself and having the upper hand in a relationship, not accepting other terms than your own.

Mwah (Blow your mind)

If you don't like the way I talk, then why am I on your mind?
If you don't like the way I rock, then finish your glass of wine
We fight, and we argue, you'll still love me blind
If we don't f**k this whole thing up
Guaranteed, I can blow your mind
Mwah!

Well. I'm having so much fun listening to the songs, so the post it's taking more than I expected.

Also, "Thinking bout you" is a perfect song. It's kinda a mix of blues, soul, and R&B, and it makes me so happy that someone defends and values these genres. I will share a video live singing because Dua does a fantastic performance, and she hits low grassy graves that in-studio are "too perfect" for my taste.

Thinking bout you

I know that there are two points of view of contemporary music. One stands from the old generation, that lived in a huge and lucky music movement in the '60-the '90s in all genres. The people of "real music." And there's another point of view from the youngest generation, that don't want to look back and think that today's music is the only one existing (point of debate).

Well, and there are " the ones in the middle": the ones that loved the oldies, the rock classics, and still stay tuned to the latest hits.

I'm interested in not too bad lyrics, but I look forward to a good production. That's why Dua Lipa is one of my tops recommendations. I find so many colors, interesting synths, cool drums. It's out of space, so I really want you to please check her songs. Use good headphones, lol.

The first disc was good, but the latest is an absolute groovy bad**ss record. It's an honor to the music Dua used to listen to when she was little, music of David Bowie, Bob Dylan,
Sting and Fugees. The concept is "a future of infinite possibilities while tapping into the sound and mood of some older music." And you'll see why.

One of the killer songs, not only because of the groove but also for the bass killer covers that fans have made, is "Don't start now". I could talk forever about how many times I've listened to this song. For me (because you know a song can be interpreted in many different ways), it's about her moving on in a breakup and the guy still trying to get her back. My favorite part is

I'm all good already
So moved on, it's scary
I'm not where you left me at all, so

I have to say that if you use good hear phones, the bass will kill you because it's insane. Also, remarkable voice chops are resonating at both sides (awesome) and percussion of any kind. I mean, just listen. However, there's a bass cover by Juliaplaysgroove that really makes you think how more awesome could the song be:

Following the groovy vibes in the record, there are songs like "Levitating," "Future Nostalgia," and "Pretty please." Honestly, with bass lines like this, she could be making horse sounds, and I would still love it. I'm sharing the playlist to the entire disc here

I can't be crazy, though, because Dua Lipa is one the most acclaimed artist nowadays. She has won awards like Grammys, Billboard, Brit Global Awards, American Music Awards. She has also broken records in Spotify and Youtube.

To finish here, I will leave you her performance at Grammy (COVID) Awards, where she was absolutely outstanding, and she won the Best Pop Vocal Album award for Future Nostalgia. The mashup of the two songs is killer!!!!!!!!!
