This is going to be a quick one today because I am only working half day and I have a lot I need to get done in that time. It was a pretty normal week of work, I had my regular office playlists humming along in the background.

At some point one of my albums finished and Spotify decided to try and guess what I might like to listen to. It brought up a really magnificent cover of one of my favorite songs. Check it out below!

Isn't it funny how sometimes you think the first version you hear of a song is the original one. Then many years later you hear another version that you think is a cover and it turns out that was the original all along?

That is what happened with this song. I remember when the video for the Rod Stewart version came out on MTV. It was pretty cool for the time and the song had an amazing melody that I just loved. It is still one of my favorite Rod Stewart songs to date. In fact it is just one of my favorite songs period.

I have this version in my regular every day playlist. I also have it as part of the Rod Stewart "If We Fall" Album which gets played pretty consistently in my office. It has some fantastic songs on it like this one as well as "Downtown Train". I love that album.

This isn't the first time that Robbie Robertson has appeared on my #weeklyspins. There was a song a while ago that he did with Van Morrison called "I hear you paint houses". It wasn't until @bigtom13 brought it up to me that Robbie Robertson used to be in a group called "The Band" which I love.

They have some pretty amazing songs and various prolific songwriters were part of the group at one time or another. Members like Levon Helm, Robertson, and one of their first gigs was as the backup band for Bob Dylan.

I really love this original version of the song because Robertson has such a haunting voice in it. It almost feels like a different song than the Rod Stewart version. They are both melancholy, but this one has almost an ethereal feel to it.

I love it.

Finally, we have another new album from Eric Church this Friday. While the new album last week was called Heart, the album this week is called Soul. I think we still have one or two more albums to come from him in the coming weeks.

This is the opening track from the album and I have to say I really love it. While Church can do a really good slow song and ballad, I think my favorites of his are these grittier kind of dirty rock songs.

I am really glad that my wife and I were able to see him in concert before the whole pandemic thing shut everything down. It was probably one of the best shows I have been to that I can remember.

He is a fantastic artist if you haven't checked out any of his stuff.

That's all I have for this week. If you have been listening to something awesome, let mw know about it in the comments. Better yet, write you own post and use the #weeklyspins tag!

I don't think I know either version of Broken Arrow. I can't say I listen to much Rod Stewart, but he never did much for me. There are plenty of great covers and I often find out much later that a song by a band that I loved was a cover.

You should at least check out the Robertson version. I think you might like it.

I had a listen. I like some of his stuff I've heard. I like this one in particular.
