I've gotta be pretty honest, this week has been a roller coaster for me. Lots of crazy and interesting stuff going on. You will have to read the other post I am going to write today to get to that. This one is all about music.

Given the blur that was this week, it took me a little bit to pick out the pieces of things I can specifically remember listening to.

With that in mind, I guess I should get started.

I make no apologies about how much I like country music. It is probably one of the genres that I listen to the most. I think it is safe to say that I know more current country songs than pop songs. I can't tell you who half of the new Top 40 artists these days when it comes to the Rock/Pop charts.

Florida Georgia Line have really come a long way from their debut single "Cruise" I can't tell you how many years ago. They definitely have a "theme" when it comes to their songs. You might think there are only so many ways you can talk about partying in a farm field on a Friday night, but they seem to be able to make it work.

Maybe it is jus the fact that I grew up in the country, but there is something about their music that I can really connect with.

I'd go so far as to say that FGL is the modern day Brooks & Dunn. Those are some pretty big boots to fill, but I think they do it quite well.

I hit a point this week where I really needed some "calm down music". I can't tell you why, but my mind immediately went to waltzes. Usually it would have been something less obtuse like jazz or Spanish guitar music. Both of those really work at calming my mind (except maybe that experimental jazz stuff). Anyway, I landed on waltzes and I have to say it was very soothing.

There is something about the time period when waltzes were all the rage that really resonates with me. Don't get me wrong, I love my indoor plumbing and conveniences of modern life, but part of me longs to be in a time where visiting some grand ball room at a chalet in Switzerland was the norm.

I suck at dancing. I have never tried ballroom dancing and I likely never will, but in my head I am a fantastic dancer and this type of music can transport me to that place. Isn't it funny how music can do that for you?

Finally, I am going to jump back over to the country genre. Eric Church has a new album that dropped today. In fact, he has something like four new albums dropping in the next month. Isn't that crazy? I think that is maybe the one good thing that has come out of the pandemic. I miss live music dearly, but all of this free time has given artists lots of time to work on new material.

Powerhouses like Eric Church, Taylor Swift and others have been pumping out new music like a virtual machine. It is pretty awesome.

Since this album just dropped today, I haven't had the chance to listen to it yet. You can bet it will be playing in my office today though.

At first listen, this song definitely has that Eric Chruch feel with a bit of John Mellencamp thrown in there for good measure.

I look forward to digging in to the whole album.

So there you have it. That is what I have been or will be listening to this past week. If you have been listening to some really great music, leave a comment and let me know about it. Better yet, write your own post and use the #weeklyspins tag!
