Retouching some Golden Hour Portraits of Justine - video + stills

I'm really happy to share more photos of the shoot I recently completed with Justine Green. On the day of the shoot, we shot for around three hours, which encompassed light from harsh, directional light, all the way through to golden hour.

Golden hour is the part of the day where the sun hangs low in the horizon. You'll find most photographers taking photos of the sunset during this time of day, but they'e really wasting their time. You should take photos of everything else around the sunset, including people.

This was shot in the little gully just off the path in the reserve, with a beautiful rock-wall serving as the backdrop. It was getting rather cold by this point of the day - so we moved quickly, with the fading light.

The below video shows my retouching of these images. As with my last post, I focus on a methodical practice with retouching images. You can read more about that in my previous post.

Here's the video:

And here are the completed images:

I couldn't decide on colour or black and white for image, so I did both.

With the second image, I also had the same problem, but instead, let's begin with the black and white image first:

Then move onto the final colour version:

I prefer the colour, that is what will be published on my website, and will go into my increasingly large portfolio of work!

I am always happy to share my knowledge of photography, retouching, or the related practices of lighting. Let me know in the comments if you have any questions, and I'll do my best to answer them!

Classic holoz0r portraits XD

(I also read the path of reserve line as off the path of reason x_x)

That portfolio probably looks pretty impressive by now.

It is getting there - but I'll never be happy - there's always something more I can do to improve.

I just wish that there was more paid work out there!
