Life gives you surprises / Shock on the STEEM platform.

The events that occurred in the last hours on the STEEM blockchain have the community truly dismayed, due to the decisions taken, both by the 20 main witnesses implementing the Soft Fork (SF), and the response of @justinsunsteemit, which gives it control of the platform.

For me it has been necessary to read a large number of publications, to try to understand what is happening, and to try to give my personal opinion about this case.

These days everything has been written, from the resignation of three main members of the steemit.inc team, to expressions of fear, panic, disappointment, those who are against and in favor of the action taken by @justinsunsteemit, there are also the most radical they affirm that the measure was necessary because of the attitude of the witnesses.

Soft fork.

Is this measure really justified? It is said that the argument of the witnesses to implement the measure was to have a guarantee to protect the community from alterations that they wanted to implement on the platform, it was like having insurance to discuss the Steemit's future, expose his arguments at a meeting that was already scheduled in advance.

In my opinion what the witnesses implemented was a hostile measure, and Justin himself interpreted it, if I intend to negotiate with someone who has just bought a company, where he has just invested an amount of money, no matter what our differences, I think that it is best to approach with a conciliatory tone, I do not kick the testicles and then invite him to talk.

With all due respect to the witnesses, I think that this is not the way to talk, negotiate with you while I have you by the balls, to try to impose my ideas, that generates hostility and that is what ended up happening.

Take control of @justinsunsteemit and his witness team.

It is said that Justin's decision and subsequent action is arbitrary, totalitarian, damaging and taxable. I wonder: Isn't it the same as the witnesses did when making the decision to freeze the funds without consulting with the person who just bought part of the company?

A clear demonstration of power, the witnesses tried to make their power felt and Justin reacted to this fact, the question is: What would you do instead of Justin, or what would you do instead of the main witnesses?

I am not trying to justify or vindicate the actions taken by any of those involved, I just try to put myself in place of each of the parties to try to give an objective opinion of what is happening.

Consequences.

To see the consequences of all this we must wait, I think we must act sensibly, with a lot of poise and common sense, of course I do not have large amounts of money at risk to be frightened, however, I have learned to value this platform, but she of the dividends she can receive from her.

There are people who have already started shutting down to withdraw their money from the platform, some say it is the end of STEEM as we knew it, that the witnesses will reveal themselves and will begin a fork of the STEEM chain.

Pure speculation so far, for now the @steemitblog team issued the following publication An Open Letter to the Community - HF22.5 that would be interesting for you to read.

Let me know your opinion about this topic.

I totally agree that there is not one party that is right and the other that is wrong. I don't want to judge this matter since nobody is totally free from fault.

On the other hand, I see that 3 majors steemit employees resigned probably out of protest. Then when I read the open letter from @steemitblog I'm especially shocked by the following statement:

Deploy in the next Hard Fork as soon as possible to reduce power down time to 1-3 days in alignment to other mainstream blockchains, while open for discussion for better economic implications.

This implies the death of content creation. Imagine you could upvote a post, power down and upvote with the same stake the same post twice or several times until it is mature. This just doesn't work. In my eyes this quick powerdown is intended to help the exchanges to get their liquid steem back. In addition this hard fork would pay the witnesses more. So one person decides for a whole blockchain?

This shows me that the tron people don't understand how this blockchain works and I wonder if there is anybody left who actually has the know how to code this hard fork.

If I have to choose I prefer to vote for what allowed me to enjoy steem for two years. Nothing is perfect and the old witnesses are far from being faultless but I prefer to vote for them.

Best regards,
Achim

Hi @achim03 thanks for being here.

Good choice, here I am only questioning the way to act in a moment and in a particular sircunstance, I prefer steem like this since I met him, but I say he could have negotiated without reaching the extremes.

Justin Sun could have allowed the soft fork to remain, and opened up communication with the community like he promised. He could have kept the ace up his sleeves (the threat of using borrowed money from foreign exchanges), and offered to at least respect the opinions of the community to allow things to continue peacefully, and allow us to govern ourselves.

I am sure the witnesses would have allowed him to regain access to his stake over time, but he took it as a hostile assault leaving him no option other than to hit the kill button. He wants access to his stake instantly, which is why he changed the power down time. That way he can borrow investors money to force changes on us at any moment he needs the extra firepower. This will ruin the price of steem forever, and possibly destroy its reputation as a currency that can be trusted.

Hello friend @creativetruth, thanks for expressing your opinion.

Justin Sun could have allowed the soft fork to remain, and opened up communication with the community like he promised.

Yes, it is possible that this happened, but when there is a power struggle each party involved wants to make itself felt and in this case, Justin made himself felt.

This will ruin the price of steem forever, and possibly destroy its reputation as a currency that can be trusted.

We do not know friend, I am sure that other actions are coming, I still do not believe that this guy has bought steemit.inc to destroy it.

Dear @fucho80

Very wise post. Saddening, but absolutely worth reading.

For me it has been necessary to read a large number of publications, to try to understand what is happening, and to try to give my personal opinion about this case.

Same here. I also tried to learn as much as I could and still .. entire situation is surely very confusing for many. It's hard to understand goals and intentions on both sides. I'm sure that witnesses and so called whales mostly are worried about their investment being in heavy risk - which is quite normal and justified.

On the other hand Justin. Week ago it seemed that optimism has been growing and until soft fork (which I will always consider unnecessary and pointless act)

Right now most people seem to care about pointing finger at Justin and putting blame on him. Saying that he started. That he forced witnesses to carry on with recent soft fork. And to some cenrtain degree I understand both sides. However it doesn't matter any more "who started". What matters is that I cannot see possibility of any dialog happening any more between those 2 parties.

And that is bad :/

Is this measure really justified?

Many users will see it as fully justified action. And even if I would agree with them - I think it's like putting stick into ant nest. How could anyone assume lack of reaction. Soft fork clearly provoked escalation of conflict and it completely "shut down" some door.

Week ago I've been quite optimistic, today I'm feeling a bit doomed. I would only like to know what were Justin's reasons to purchase Steem in the first place. Perhaps he didn't expect that Steem community will turn out to be mostly very hostile and unable to accept new order.

This has been a huge fight between large stakeholders. Between people who do not give a shit about us, small users. That's how I see it already.

Yours, Piotr

Hello dear @crypto.piotr, thanks for this great comment.

This has been a huge fight between large stakeholders. Between people who do not give a shit about us, small users. That's how I see it already.

Never better said, that's something I've thought about, both defend their interests and don't blame them, but nobody really cares about the small content creators that we strive daily to add value to this chain and make it a pleasant place .

We get caught up in a fight of great interests and we don't have the power to influence their decisions, our actions are worth little to them.

So we must wait as the matter is resolved.

We really have very little power, insufficient to make big differences.

I will try to be brief and precise, in one word: concise.

The situation scares me and I think that the two major sides in conflict have triggered a very serious confrontation that will transform the steem blockchain we knew. On whether the result will be beneficial or not for the development of the project? Well, it's still too early to know.

That idea of reducing the shutdown time had already been heard, although there was talk of taking it to only 4 weeks, that of taking it to even 1 or 3 days is something much shorter. It can cause an instability problem because it could be seen as a way to bleed the reward pool, but it could make sense for investors who are more interested in the possibility of short-term business than in developing the concept of a Social Network blockchain long-term.

Hello friend @pedrobrito2004

To be honest, all this is very confusing, we know that a confrontation began and we don't know how it will end, the community is being urged to vote massively for old witnesses on the platform to try to reverse Justin's action, but in particular I have not read about a plan or a specific position of the witnesses.

I advise to be attentive to this situation and then make decisions when the subject seems clearer.

We have entered a time of war and I have the unpleasant idea that both sides consider us "cannon fodder"

Hello dear @crypto.piotr.

Today I have been reading some publications and there is a declared war of the witnesses towards Justin, they are trying to involve the community, but to be honest I don't know if this fight will pay off.

Justin will not be easily defeated.

So far, I just obey the situation, I don't want to get carried away by emotions, I don't know how this will end.

What do you think?

Steem-tanic? Have we hit the Iceberg yet? Should we abandon the ship?

We're trapped in the middle of the war.

This all sounds terrifying.

For users like me, who can't do anything, all that's left is to wait and see what happens and then adjust to the new management or the winning party.

Hope for the best.

Hi appreciated @fucho80.

From the beginning I said that no one would buy a beautiful palace and then tear it down. And of course the purchase of Steemit was not with that intention.

What the buyer never expected was to find this action by the witnesses. We must clarify something: the witnesses are not Steemit, nor were they chosen to carry out a hostile attack on behalf of the entire community.

Now we have this unpleasant confrontational situation.
What will Sun do? He has two options in my opinion:

  1. Continue the fight until he win. In this case, what would Steemit's fate be? Are these apocalyptic prophecies that the old witnesses constantly repeat to us will be fulfilled?
  2. Recover his capital and go out. In this scenario Steemit would be ruined. The witnesses who propitiated this could not lift the ecosystem again. The damage would be irreversible.

In my opinion this is a meaningless struggle. Perhaps there is one of the two sides that has some justification. But in a war there are never winners.

Your friend, Juan.

I believe a good solution will come by year's end. After all he did not buy Steemit just to get rid of the blockchain properties.
