Porfolio: The ephemeral art in sand of Sam Dougados

The ephemeral art is one that from the moment of its creation necessarily has a limited life time, either because it is made of perishable materials, or because the environment has such a strong impact on it that it disappears in a short time. This type of artistic expression is usually registered in photographs so that those who cannot access it can see it through images.

It is not the first time that I encounter someone who uses sand as a canvas, but I must confess that the work of Sam Dougados has captivated me. Perhaps it is because of its geometric nature, either because of its scale, or because of what it transmits.

Possibly ephemeral art is the first of all that existed, before man found materials that resisted the passage of time, and it is a type of expression that I particularly like because in essence it does not seek to transcend, but simply to exist the as long as possible, something like a dream, which is magical precisely because it is ephemeral, but that can mark us so much that it can govern up to our lives.
