10 Reasons Why Hive is Perfect for Me

avatar

Hello Hiveians!

There was a discussion in one of the channels in Discord which made me in deep thought. The result of that retrospection, analysis, and synthesis is this post. Never in a million ideas that pop out in my head that I would reach this far. Although I still feel like there are still a lot of opportunities to grab, I never thought of having people looking up to me because of the work I've done. I have said numerous times that I'm socially awkward so if we see each other in person, don't expect too much from me. I have made a different personality here than in person.

As an introvert, I felt that Hive is the perfect place for me to just vent out the stuff that I couldn't say in person. As it turned out, things became a little bit different. I have this feeling that I should live up to the expectations you have set for me. Don't get me wrong. It's inevitable and I take it in a positive way. I just came up with this post to reaffirm why I was here in the first place. Someday I might come back to this post and evaluate if the reasons why I'm here could still be applied in that time in the future.

Hive is a dream come true. If we are to count my time in the previous chain, it will be my three years next month in this blogging-on-a-blockchain thing and I still feel like it was my first time posting. I'm learning something new every day and it keeps me awake late at night and makes me wake up early in the morning. It was not my job that takes most of my time; it's Hive because I felt like I'm lurking somewhere 24/7.

Just to warn you, this post might be longer than expected. Here are the reasons why I think Hive is perfect for me:

1. I Couldn't Stop Talking

This post is the testament of that statement. I felt like my mind is always on a work mode and I need something to release all those messy thoughts. I guess that's how introverts work. I'm not sure.

Steem made me sane when I was at the lowest of my life. It became my outlet when I couldn't talk even to my closest friends. Hive made me afloat amidst this pandemic. Without Hive, I would have installed TikTok and embarrass myself countless times over. Hive made my thoughts organized. It doesn't stop there as it became a repository of memories, happy memories mostly, but some painful ones are also here. Maybe they're not so obvious because I have hidden them in subtlety.

To be able to blurt out stuff and have people understand you completely is a blessing. Not all people are privileged enough to have those kinds of people in their life. What's good about Hive is that there are a lot of people who will understand you. You just have to find the right community. They're total strangers to me as we haven't met yet, but I felt I have known them for a long time. I have a constant line of communication with some of them and I felt really blessed to have them.

2. I Could Make a Difference

I already made a difference. First to myself and to my family. I already told you we would have been in a precarious situation financially without Hive. Due to the lockdown, I was not able to work for two months (April and May) and the rewards I got in my posts in those two months became our daily sustenance. I was also able to help my aunt and our neighbours.

To those who have been supporting me in my posts, you have my sincerest gratitude. Please know you have been the dividing line between hunger and provision during those two months. I will always bring that gratitude with me.

It's one of my ways of paying it forward. I hope you will support @iamyohann's #WhoAreTheyPhilippines Project. You can find the latest posts on @whoaretheyph. A few HIVE and HBD would go a long way to those who really need it. With the project's transparency and full commitment to help random people, I felt I am helping in making a difference, one random person at a time.

For those who are doubting the project, please just observe. You can be a silent auditor in the process. Does it bring value to Hive? Absolutely! It might be far-fetched for now, but one day in the future, that value will be in our grasp. I believe in the Ripple Effect and your random acts today will have a compounding effect in the future. I hope you're with me. Let's make a difference together.

3. I Could Promote My Country

It has always been my goal to promote the Philippines. Specializing in travel is the best way to do that. Everything seemed to be a perfect fit. A wanderlust who loves to talk about his travels in his own country. I didn't have any formal blogging background, but I was a freelance article writer back in college so I guess that helped.

I always urge my fellow Filipino travel bloggers to put out their best content here. Judging from what I see on @pinmapple's Daily Travel Digest, I think that worked out fine. I'm not claiming to be the sole reason why that happened, but I can proudly say I helped pave the way with my tips and tricks.

There's so much to explore in the Philippines and to be able to influence people to visit will be an achievement. The good thing is that I'm not alone now. A few other Filipinos are doing the same and that makes me very happy.

4. I Could Learn Something New Everyday

We have to admit the learning curve is too steep. Until now, I still couldn't explain some of the concepts of how everything works. I'm trying to wrap my head around some of the mechanisms and I have to say some are too technical for an ordinary user. I could just leave those concepts to the experts and just continue posting, but I wanted to understand the building blocks of the whole structure.

There's always something new to tinker around. I'm trying to understand how people behave at certain situations. OCD has implemented a tip bot in their Discord server lately and that place is teeming with life. I find that fascinating that I stayed there most of the time. It's not because I wanted the tip, but because I get to chat with people from all around the world.

From governance to economics to social psychology, I just find Hive to be a place to experiment and learn something new. It's a rare opportunity to see people from all around the world working together. Or bicker over trivial matters. I'm fine either way.

5. I Couldn't Find a Better Alternative Yet

Okay. Find me a platform that will reward you for your first content, your introduction post, with a very supportive community. Sure, Hive has a lot to improve, but you can't expect it to be fixed overnight. Besides, I guess everything is voluntary here. You're free to stay or go whenever you want.

If you think there's a better alternative than Hive, please leave a comment below and I'll sign up there. It should fit my own criteria though: (1) solid community, (2) fairer reward distribution than Hive, (3) no initial investment, (4) supports any type of content, and (5) has no central controlling entity.

The relationships I had forged here might also be a deciding factor. I don't want to trade that for a few dollars that I would probably earn. Why do you think I stick around even when most of my friends are gone? Because I have made a lot of new friends from all around the world even if the people who were with me when I started have left already. Plus, they're slowly coming back! So there's that.

6. I Could Say It's Beyond the Rewards

Who doesn't care about rewards? Let's not fool ourselves. I want to see my posts be rewarded. However, I do not focus on rewards alone. If I did focus on rewards, I would have left already when it wasn't profitable.

I believe that chasing for rewards alone is not sustainable. You'll become self-centered that you will forget it's a social platform after all. If you think of it as cash tap, you're doomed. Engagement is one factor that drives this machine. Reach out to people who share the same interests.

The friendships I have built in Hive is priceless. I will never trade that to any amount. That alone made me stay.

7. I Couldn't Stop Lurking Around

I love drama and spilt tea. Being a decentralized community with members from all around the world, Hive never runs out of drama. As I've said, some bicker around trivial things. I always find that fascinating. I lurk around for some drama to witness and I love every bit of it.

Talking to people with different standpoints and are coming from different backgrounds helped me develop a pragmatic approach to things. It helped me understand why certain groups of people behave the way they behaved. I would never get tired of it.

The next time another drama ensues, expect me to be somewhere watching, analyzing, and probably eating some popcorn. I love every bit of it.

8. I Couldn't Say No to a Protest

Hive is a protest. If you haven't get that, why are you even here? Hive was born out of a protest. The very concept of decentralization is a protest to the conventional system of how we structure ourselves in a conventional social setting. It challenges how social media is configured and aims to change that configuration.

Hive is a paradigm shift, as with any crypto project that has no central entity, and to be at the forefront of that shift is just fascinating. The core concept is already there and I believe the future of content creation is already here. Hive is an experiment and it will continue to be in the next few years. It will evolve, it will adapt, and it will thrive.

There will be roadblocks along the way. There will be sceptics and fearmongers and that's fine. A protest is messy before it became organized. That alone makes me very excited and I wish to see where all of these will lead me in the next few years.

9. I Could Be In for Something Big

Can you imagine what Hive would be in the next few years? If it would still be a place where strangers would argue over small issues, that would be fine. I will still be here. However, if Hive will grow and evolve into something big, which I believe will happen and is already happening, I don't want to be in the backseat. I want to be in the VIP seat.

As I've said, Hive is already a dream come true for me, but it's potential is yet to be unveiled. You won't know what will happen and that alone excites me. For it to be something big or something else entirely depends on us users. If Hive turned out to be a massive failure, then there's no one to blame but us.

Knowing that a lot of people have invested their time and talents to make Hive succeed is an assurance enough for me to stick around through it all. I hope I could still say this in the future.

10. I Couldn't Imagine What My Life Would Be Without Hive

Cliché. Need I say more? Seriously, I couldn't imagine what I would do without Hive. It has been part of my system for the last three years and there's no sign of it to be flushed out anytime soon.

I would probably have been an all career person. Or I would probably stick to the very technical side of my job which would make me stoic and devoid of any source of entertainment.

I'm in Hive before I sleep and I checked it first thing when I wake up. That's my life now and I couldn't think of something otherwise.

I'm sure everyone has reasons why we're here. Whatever your reason is, just make sure that it is aligned with the core principles Hive was born for. If not, I tell you it's not sustainable. You'll eventually find yourself in a difficult situation sooner or later.

There you have it! I laid down my reasons why Hive is perfect for me. How about you? What are your reasons why you're here?

That's true! I rarely use other social media platforms except Twitter. Deactivated my Facebook for months already.

we are still relatively at the beginning at hive

This! The potential is very much in the horizon, but the night is still young. 😂 We still have a lot to discover.

Very well said oy 👏🏼

As for me, I'm here because this serves as my creative outlet. I'm not good in visual arts, I could only wish. But words, I have them a lot. Like static in my brain. Might as well put to good use, yung may rewards. Haha!

That deserved all the support. It might not bring value to Hive directly, but the ripple of positivity it could create would be beyond measure. Since it's documented and stored in Hive, one day it will lead people to Hive. At least that's what I believe when I supported it.

Thank you for sharing your Hive journey with us and for your generosity. I am learning a lot from you and your core values are inspiring.

Ever since I joined the Hive, I haven't been active on social media. There is no other platform in my experience that offers this kind of reward and interaction. As an introvert, it is not always easy to put oneself out there. I am drawn by the opportunities Hive offers for creative expression.

Love the layout and flow of your post as well, it's relaxing to read.

Since I joined Steem three years ago, I haven't been active in other social media. Except Twitter. 😂 If I had a choice, I would have ditched Twitter. Since we are to have a presence there, I intended to keep it that way.

When everything seemed to hit rock bottom, I never left because I believed in its potential. You're right, the opportunities creative expression that Hive offers can't be found anywhere else.

I get what you mean about ditching Twitter. Last year, I did a social media purge and deactivated my twitter account. I had to create a new one just for the Hive since the old one's gone forever. Three years away from social media, well done.

Wow! I have been away from Facebook for months. I think I can manage for years. Haven't posted on Instagram either. It's all Hive and Twitter now.

"You come for the rewards. You stay for the community"

This was the concept of Steemit that drove me to really invest myself in a blockchain blogging platform. I believe this is still the same for Hive. Aside from the dopamine-releasing idea of reaping rewards, the concept of being able to do what you please and getting enormous responses from those who share the same interests is the prime reason we stay. We allow our minds to wander here and the community is civil enough to let out a well crafted reply. Social media toxicity is high and HIVE is a really good platform to start and fix that.

Before I started, the concept was something straight from a Black Mirror episode. However, now it is a reality and best we do is to embrace it.

Social media toxicity is a reality that we have to embrace. There's a certain toxicity here if you just know where to look. The drama, the tea, the shade, whatever that is, Hive will never run out of that. I think the only difference is that there's a certain level of responsibility here compared to other social media. I mean, you can do what you want, but you should be ready to face its consequences.

I stand corrected. Maybe that is how it is. A level of shared responsibility can make a difference. I guess, we can start from there

There's an incentive kasi. If you're exhibiting bad behaviour, you're likely to be punished for it. On the other side, if you're emulating an acceptable or even a commendable behaviour, the community will likely reward you for it. Whereas on other social media, there's no reward and punishment mechanism so it becomes a Wild West. That's what I like about this community.
