A Youtubers Guide for Leaving Youtube

These days, I see countless people complaining about being demonetized or censored by Youtube. Free speech, access to information and peoples livelihoods seem to be hanging by a thread.

Obviously it would be nice if everyone had somewhere else to go in order to make a living, without fear that they are going to be silenced. It seems most Youtubers and other social media influencers feel the same way, but they also don't want to risk losing their following by moving to an obscure platform without a future.

First of all, Hive has a future. Hive is decentralized social media with video and audio based applications. Posts earn money for the likes they receive and communities organize around topics they care about.

We have survived and grown stronger during the past three years (formerly at steem/steemit) and learned from our successes and failures. We have a great core community that has fixed abuse issues, improved curation quality, reduced spam, cut out a corrupt CEO, survived a crash in prices, and is now more united in vision than ever.

We have developers, we have a system of monetization which puts the users and investors in control and we have the tools to grow exponentially in a short period of time. We have different teams running different applications and so you have a choice about which interface you want to use (3speak, dtube, etc.) but we are all unified in our vision towards building a new way to reward you for your content and be yourself when you share what you share with the world.

One step at a time

I am not asking you to leave your youtube following behind. I am not asking for you to put all of your faith in Hive, 3speak or Dtube right now. Some people moved over to our platforms and were disappointed by the fact that they didn't see immediate success. That's a given. Even if you are famous, it might not translate into immediate success here, but if you are onboard early, it will position you to be massively successful as we continue to grow.

Keep uploading to youtube. Keep doing exactly what you are doing. Do not abandon everything and move over to Hive. You can easily continue to make videos and put them on youtube and then ALSO upload to 3speak. A few extra pennies or dollars may not seem like much to you, but you are doing so much to grow an ecosystem which will be better than the one you are currently part of. You can put 2% of your effort into Hive at first, then 10%, then 30%, then 50%, when you see fit!

Essentially whether or not we can build a great ecosystem is up to us, it's up to me and it's up to you. Let's not wait for some new trendy company to come around. Let's build this ourselves.

You can help steer us in the right direction.

When you invest in Hive, when you bring your followers to Hive (or 3speak or dtube), or when you raise awareness about Hive and its platforms, you are shaping the future of the platform. You don't have to like everything about this place. If you don;t like it, you can change it! What makes it different from Youtube and Instagram is that you have a big say in what direction it takes. If you can bring 1000 users over here, those are 1000 users that have something in common with you. They will shape what gets rewarded here and what kinds of communities grow here.

We are not a top down model. Currently we have no CEO. Our direction and our success is in our own hands. Step up to the plate and lets build something better.

Hive is a two-way street

Because it is monetized, we have a very interesting dynamic which encourages two way interactions rather than one way fandom. This may seem like a lot of work, but it isn't really. It just means you will gain social cred for interacting with your fans and that social cred will likely turn into more support and attention. This is likely something you are doing anyway.

As I mentioned before, you don't have to put a whole lot of energy into it at first. While most of your fans are at youtube, don't neglect them. You don't need to comment or interact here much at first unless it seems like fun to you. Try mentioning Hive to your fanbase. Encourage them to sign up if you see the potential. Once more of them come over here, you can slowly move your attention to this new platform.

This is a win-win for Hive and for you. You will be reaching our expanding user base while also helping to grow that user base.

Put some skin in the game

If you invest in Hive, not only does it have the potential to grow exponentially in value (we were just listed at two of the biggest cryptocurrency exchanges in the world), you can use that influence to create interesting incentives for your following and to support other users that you like.

  • You can upvote the best comments on your content, and reward people for engaging.
  • You can run contests where your fans create their own content or respond to your work and you can reward them as you see fit.
  • If someone helped you with something, you can set them as a partial benefactor in your post so they receive a % of the rewards.
  • You can collaborate with your fanbase in interesting ways and allow them to make posts which will also be rewarded as you and the community see fit.
  • You can build a community here for any and every topic, including your own work and if you want to, you can even create your own coin that will have as much value as people want to trade it for.
  • If you invest a substantial amount, you can help keep the users that you see as adding value and reward them accordingly.

We look forward to meeting you and your following. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by joining.

Feel free to share this with any youtubers you follow!

I am using the tag #cometohive for any and all initiatives and ideas which will increase our userbase and bring quality content creators and consumers here. I encourage you to use this tag for any posts that can help us to grow our community through our own efforts.

I really wish more people would somehow find out about this place and actrually give it a good go. Once I get enough models together I want to start making AMVs among other things and it would be epic to be able to just set the artist whose tracks I use as 50% beneficiaries.
