My stressful job interview day

Yesterday was my job interview and I did not get a migraine!

I call that a win.

So, yesterday morning, I tried not to do too much. I didn't think there was much stress, but I guess my body didn't agree with me on that front. I did start to feel a headache come on, so I had a painkiller before stepping into the car after lunch.

Honestly, new car routes do stress me out. I hate driving.

So, as I got into the car, the church bells started. I drove off and headed straight for a long line of humans, walking towards the cemetery. Ofcourse! So, had to wait for that. Great start.

Then, the first new road I took turned out to be a lot smaller than I would have expected, meaning I had to take great care whenever there was another car heading towards me. Also, ofcourse, a couple of big, slow, farming machines.

Oh yes, I was starting to get really stressed now!

Next was a town I had to drive through with many turns in the road and many crossroads and bikers and other people around. It's a miracle I didn't hit anyone.

Stressed out completely now, the last half of the drive was on a normal road, luckily. The last few minutes headed towards the office were a bit of a pain, but doable. I was so happy to finally park my car and get out!

Started with 10 minutes to spare, ended with a few minutes left, so I made it in time! Headed in, announced my presence and waited to be picked up. I had an interview with two people this time. They weren't able to get others together in such a short time. Oh well, less intimidating!

We had a good conversation. I was honest about my previous hickups due to stressful, non fitting jobs and they made clear what was expected of me. I told them what they could expect from me and how I would come at different problems. There's plenty to improve over there and it seems like there's enough challenges for me. After an hour, we said goodbye and they'd call me later to let me know if they wanted to continue.

So, back in the car again! Bah! Stressed out the last half of the drive, I promised myself I'd look for different routes next time. Once back home, I felt a migraine imminent, so I put on my sunglasses, drank a lot of water, ate a whole bunch of veggie chips and laid down for a while. That seemed to help stabilize me and the migraine warning slowly subsided.

I got a call later that afternoon, inviting me back for a second interview next week with a bunch of different people. Hopped onto Google maps this morning to find a different route and used streetview to assure myself of a less stressful ride next time. I'm all set now!

The job seems interesting and challenging and a great new step for me. A step forwards, which is always a little scary ("Can I do this thing?"), but I'm smart, I should be able to do this! The other choice would be to not move forward, which means looking for a crappy job I don't like. No way! I'll just be scared for a little while and grow instead.

I told them (twice) I wouldn't be able to start until the second half of september and I still got a call back, so I guess that's okay! Also, after the whole COVID thing, they are planning on doing 50/50 working at the office and from home, so that would mean 1 day at home, 1 day at the office and 1 flexible day for home or office. I'm happy working from home is included and having one or two days at the office is pretty handy aswell, especially in the beginning when I would need to get a lot of information from co-workers.

Oh well, let's see how interview number 2 goes first, before I get too excited!

A second interview is promising! Good luck when it comes. I think a blended office/home approach will be a great thing. Thats what my place is proposing when it calms down a bit more.

Thank you!

Yeah, I've been hearing this from a couple of people. It's a great compromise and a good step for the environment aswell :-)

If they call you, then that is definitely a good sign. You probably got the job, so good luck with it.
