Good things to Celebrate

avatar

There is a lot of negativity floating about. Being trapped at home I assume is causing a lot of it. And let's face it, there are days when I am not so positive myself. But today I am feeling good and I have some great reasons to be feeling this way too.

HIVE Curation - Content of General Appeal

The first thing I want to mention is the curation on Hive. Like most of us here I have been posting content to the blockchain for a long time. Ok now its a new blockchain and with newness comes change. My personal blog, this one you are reading now, has always outperformed my business blog @theexcelclub It has always disappointed me a little as the content I publish on my business blog appeals to more people than the content I produce here on this blog. There are not that many people interested in my life, and not too many more interested in the data from the blockchain. So I could never understand why it was rewarded more than my posts on Excel.

I get that the audience on HIVE or on Steem were not interested in Excel, but its a highly searchable topic and it can attract a nice amount of views. It has more of a general appeal than this post.

I have published 3 posts from my business to hive and I am delighted to say, 2 of these have performed well above expectations. Ok so I didn't make a fortune, but I did get curated by @appreciator on one of them and by @buildawhale on another. I just need my third post to be curated now too 🤣😂

For me, this is awesome, but I also think it is great for Hive and I hope to see more content of a general appeal being curated here on hive. If this is they way things are going to go, then this is a good great thing to celebrate

80K Students

only 21 days ago I did a celebration post as I had just reached 75K unique students on Udemy. You can read about it here It took me a number of years to reach that milestone😍 but my overall target is 150K. Apparently that is the magic number. In that post I said

I wonder if I can reach that in the next year. I think I can, what do you think?????

To reach the milestone of 150K students, I would need to get 5K new students a month and I am delighted to announce, within only 21 days I have 5K new students and have reached 80K unique students across 186 countries.

Now that is good news and something to celebrate!! ( and more proof curating Excel content on hive is a good idea 😁 - look how popular the topic is off hive)

What great things are you celebrating today? Leave a comment below and lets spread some positivity

I did get curated by @appreciator on one of them and by @buildawhale as well, it was a special feeling, just twice I think and they're doing a great job. Congratulations on 81k students that's sweet if you ask me.

thanks for reading and nice work on the curation - hive is alive :-)

Congratulations on your milestone. If 10% of your students joined Hive it could make quite a difference and increase your rewards. Maybe someone can build a dedicated educational Dapp.

@steevc it would be easy to hook my system up with the blockchain to store certificates of completion and progress reports. that could entice people. I also then have the community which I have not yet begun to promote. I was about to start on steem and look what happened. so I am a bit apprehensive

Well I hope Hive can be a more appropriate platform. Having to pivot a business is not good. Maybe some witnesses could help you out. Hive really needs some extra activity. There's not even much for me to flag :)

There's not even much for me to flag :)

now that's interesting.

I actually spoke with @raycoms way back about hooking things up to steem and he was willing to help me at the time but I was not ready ( I wonder if he remembers, but now that I pinged him I am sure we will find out 🤣 ) I'm sure he would help me now if I wanted to go down that route. However, I use a third-party learning management system and would need a higher tier package if I want to hook up my own API and I am not so sure it's worth the money at the moment. I could do something more manual, like running a daily or weekly report and using that to feed the JSON to be posted to the block with the data, but that's like a lot of work.

Thank god Gina is on hive to notify me about these things.
Shouldn't be too hard. I mean you might even want to make it an actual post on the blockchain where the certificate is nicely formatted

hahha cool, you jumped in there rather fast, yeps good job for gina. I miss steemworld, I used that way more than gina. Hope you are well @raycoms

I never thought of making it an actual post on the blockchain as that could easily be considered spam by some and I would not like to see students getting flagged, whereas JSON is not visible but is accessible

True, you could pack some more data in the json too to render it on some kind of website too. Would work either way. If you posted it in your own community without any votes I believe no one would flag it either way though.

hmmmmm leaving my site aside, there could be a business in storing learning certs on the hive blockchain.

Storing certificates on blockchain is a pretty big thing. There are numerous papers already working around that. Having independent organs certify certain things as entities on the blockchain. A group at my university is working on taking an entire bachelor curriculum to the blockchain via this.

And you are going to convince them to use HIVE right?

They are requiring native smart contracts for those, so they're using Ethereum

Bummer. if SMT's or HMTs or whatever they will be called existed, would that be good enough? they are like smart contracts, right?

They are specific smart contracts, but this project needs different ones. "More generic"

That's brilliant, getting people do to anything on the internet is hard enough, I'm hoping to hit around 800k visits on my site this year minimum but pushing hard for 1 million. Gosh, I'd love 80k users, but would be happy with 8k lol, with the purge in businesses going on now, the ones that can stick it out will be absorbing far more of the market share

800k visits on my site

you are on fire, I don't get anywhere near that. Although with the lockdown, online stuff is doing so much better, my traffic is up, along with my course sales and as you can see, Udemy is also on the up :-)

Well I blog a fair bit and I do link building a lot so trying to keep it simply and grow as fast as I can organically

Are you doing any advertising or is it all done organically?

I’ve been using a bit of Google and Bing ads and they work well for me, I spend about $30 a month on Bing and $120 on google and it works out pretty well for me!

it's all organic @chekohler. I do try and direct udemy students to my website when I can.

You need to make some courses you can sell, with all that traffic, you could do rather well

Well have to chat sometime about this, I need TI learn more about how you go about it and see if I can make my own courses and how to break them up etc! I’ve done workshops for companies before but nothing really formal so I know zero about creating a course!

sure thing. It's easier than you think. Most homegrown instructors struggle with marketing as making the course is the easy part, getting eyes on it is harder.

Awesome that is a lot of people! I think you can as well reach that goal with so many staying home they need something to do.

I hit rep 70 today so i am rather thrilled about that!

rep 70, way to go, that's worth celebrating. For me anyway and most likely you too did not buy your rep with the bots :-)

Yes curation brings happiness. Most of the time I end up spending hours to sit and write a post and end with rewards less than a dollar. But suddenly when we receive a good vote on one of the posts, it is definitely an amazing feeling. Congratulations on your milestone by the way. 😀

Some great news here @paulag and I know that the target will be reached sooner than expected.
I also like to see that big blue dot on South Africa.

I have also been thinking to open a personal account and to float the Papillon blog solely for charity posts. The blog belongs to Papillon in any case.

Problem is that I doubt many members will support a pure charity post, as my nature pics are more popular. But we will see what the future holds.

Blessings and congrats!

Hi @papilloncharity and thanks for stopping by.

Yea I guess with your account, people associate you with it, there is the personal touch and people have grown to know and like you. I think it would be hard to split them out now.

I hope you and yours are keeping well and safe

Thank you for the advice Paula and I think that I know that you are correct.
Fairness and kindness play a big role in my life and I wouldn't want to disappoint anyone.
Onwards we go then, for better or worse Lol

As safe as can be and you guys also take care!
