A strong wind today, ideal for surfing!

A happy Friday to all! Now this is what I call a great surfing outfit!

A very strong wind from the north today and everyone was running after caps and hats blown off by the naughty wind.
Days of old, single guys used Volkswagen Beetles and Mini Minor cars and families used the old Volkswahen Kombi's for their seaside jaunts.
We nipped down to the beach to go and watch some action!

IMG_1385.JPG

Not everybody wanted to go into the water :)

IMG_1453.JPG

The guys went in deep beyond the breakers as you can see here.
I should have taken a tripod, as the wind jerked me around with the camera!

IMG_1549.JPG

But I did mange to get some good action shots!

IMG_1636.JPG

With this wind, the kite surfers were also doing their thing!

IMG_1679.JPG

Surfing in the air to avoid a breaking wave!

IMG_1642.JPG

Now what happened here?
One moment he was up and the next moment he was down. What happened?

IMG_1639.JPG

This is what happened. His kite was not in the correct position to lift him and the wave got him!

IMG_1571.JPG

Here's another guy that I caught dancing on the waves on our way out!

IMG_1498.JPG

Finally just a lovely scene for you as we were leaving!

Now, I took about 400 photos here during the two hours that we spent at the beach. We started from the south end where some fishermen showed us how to collect "Red Bait".
Very interesting and then we moved on to the pier to watch some net fishing action. So great to see how the birds interact with the fishermen.
Then we moved to the northern end where I got the surfers and my favorite, some dogs.

It is a tedious affair, as I cannot walk far anymore and it's debilitating as I used to walk for miles anywhere. But now, everytime that we want to move to a different part of the beach, I have to use the car. Not that I am complaining, but the car starts to smell like the ocean hahaha. Marian with her normal bag of "collections" that she picks up on the beach doesn't improve the smell either.
So, we drive around with the sea in our car:)
Maybe it's good for our health!

And That's All Folks!

Note: All photos are my own, unedited and cropped for uploading.
Camera used: Canon SX60HS

We hope that you have enjoyed the pictures and thank you fot visiting a post by @papilloncharity

That's a cool looking car! Is that what a Mini Minor is? I've never seen one before, or even heard of it. Is it a South African make?

Awesome pics, by the way, as always in your posts. Good job!

Thank you and yeah we know the Mini Minor's well. In fact many years ago we used a mini to cart our tools around, as we used to work at dairies across the country.

You can have a look at them here.

Oh yeah! Of course I know this car, I just didn't know that it had no less than 14 names!!! Confusion please... I always thought it was called a Mini Cooper and I silently forgave my mom for calling it a Mini Morris as she probably didn't know better. But in fact she did, and now the joke is on me, hahaha! Thanks for informing me through the Wikipedia link.

Hahaha, we all think our parents make mistakes when they are right my friend.
But sooner or later we learn that they were correct.
Glad that you have it sorted now.
Blessings!

Magic photos, I have never surfed and the one time I was in holiday and I booked a wind surfing lesson, I did and fell and broke a rib beside the pool. Gaaar, probably my only chance!!

Maybe it's the taste of Guiness that they don't like :)
Or maybe they are allergic to whiskey soaked meat :)

Kite surfing looks like a lot of fun and something I would like to try eventually. But I think it's quite difficult.

Not from what I see. They have a bar to hang on and the kites ropes are tied to the bar. To turn left or right, they simply pull each side of the bar in the direction that they wish to go.
One needs strong arms though.

I have also seen some mistakes as when they try to turn too sharply, the ropes of the kite cross each other and twist the kite around,

I would have thought it takes at least as much strength as surfing which is tough. I'm quite good at snowboarding and have been doing it since high school, so balancing on the board would be natural for me. I found wakeboarding to be really easy the first time I tried, and it's quite similar.

I am sure that you will be a natural kite surfer and whever you get a chance you have to try it, as it looks like a serious fun event. Some guy also go ver far into the ocean, so it's not only a beating of the waves sport.

Free as a bird, swim like a fish...

Need both to do surfing and kite-surfing, never tried either!

Hahaha, You live near the ocean and you cannot surf? Shocking!
Free as a bird only in my mind. Surfing? no Kite surfing? no.
Went out deep sea fishing once in my young days, but got so inebriated on the boat that I can't remember much of it lol.

Surfing was never something considered, snorkeling and swimming yes plenty.

Enjoy your week!

Good to hear that there was swimming and snorkeling.
I have never snorkled as I suffer from a thing that I forget what it's called.
I cannot go into closed areas as I cannot breathe.
Ah, Marian just reminded me, claustrohobia is the name.
Such is life!
Also try to enjoy your week!

Nah claustrophobia only hits me in lifts and confined spaces with people, shopping malls a big no, no!

Yep! Seems that we do indeed belong to the same club Lady Joan.
In my younger days when my wife would go shopping, I would sit in the car with a sixpack and a newspaper 🙂
