Wacky Front Porch Art in Los Angeles
Touring an artist community
Here in San Pedro, California we were thinking about moving into an artist community. I happened across this piece situated in front of one of the live in studios.
There is so much weirdness going on with it that I though it would a fun subject for a Hive post. I don't know anything about the artist, but I sure enjoyed looking at this piece.
Above is a view of the entire piece. I don't know what the artist is smoking, but this is pretty trippy. There is all manner of madness happening.
They have made some little baby goggles out of what looks to be a loose leaf tea infuser. They've welded little spiderweb patterns all over the entire piece. The baby seems to have some kind of antennas and wires coming out of its head.
The seemingly random details add to the weirdness of this piece. First, you see all of the sea creatures welded on here and there. But then you look a little closer....
That's right. there's a dinosaur skeleton. Why not?
While we are at it, why not some airplanes. Makes perfect sense. This piece is a true stream of consciousness.
I'm really not sure that I fully understand what is happening here. I guess it is all open to interpretation.
Oh wait, I just noticed the little army man about to fire on the fuses of what looks to be little bombs. Interesting!
This kid is either part alien, or has been through some serious body modding. He looks like he could do some real damage with those leg spikes.
Even the base is weird. If you look closely, you can see that the whole thing is being supported by tiny elephants. Isn't that how the flat earth is supported? I think I read that somewhere. Sounds legit - and very scientific.
Below is a photo of the common area outside of the studios where the piece is located. I am guessing that it belongs to the studio that has the entrance just to the right of it.
Amanda and I were considering moving into one of these studios but we endeding deciding against it. The owner is a really nice lady who was kind enough to show us around.
The spaces are great, but I'll have to admit. I was really dreading the idea of moving! Just thinking about it makes me want to crawl into bed and sleep for about a week! Now that the virus situation keeping us all inside, it probably ain't happening at all for quite some time.
I think we'll likely be ready to buy a house with some land on it after being trapped in our apartment for so long!
I think someone took out a lot of stuff to throw away but then decided to make art. 😜
Haha! I think you are correct.
If we are all creative Sir @nuthman we could see less trash in the junk yards but would be full of eye-candy works of art :D
What can you say?
I think so! Maybe that should be an 'art initiative'.. Make something beautiful out of your trash.
Very interesting! It makes me think of the perfume commercials that you see on TV from time to time. I have no clue what is going on with them, but there is always some very beautiful and breath-taking cinematography. Buying land is a great feeling. I went from owning about 1/3 of an acre to 1/4 of an acre and if anything I wish I owned three or four. I would be happy with a smaller house on more land any day.
Haha yeah, some of those commercials leave you wondering what the hell you just watched. Just like this piece of art.
Thank you for sharing, this certainly looks fascinating xD
I so wish I had a garden right now :)
Hello Rick - following links, I am commenting on your 2 year old post. Talk back to me, let's see where this goes:
One cannot upvote a post that is a couple of years old, but one can certainly comment on that particular post, which I will do right now. You can reply to me from the old post, and we see how that goes. Maybe think of that next time, because recent comments can be voted on within the same 7 day time frame!
In the meantime, I am sharing this on my Twitter account, which is embedded on my Visionary Art Website
I will also share it on Facebook and pass it onto the Jon Beinart Group (Merlbourne, Australia Art Gallery) - I am sure he would like that, it would be right up his alley!

Thanks my friend! I just thought it was an interesting piece of art. I have few new adventures to share since I was locked away for 2 years.
I am in a similar boat - I do need to get out more and also create some "real" art as opposed to toying around on the computer. On top of that, how much time do I have left to do something? You had a conversation on Peter Gric's post which I also commented on. The gist of it is that real, serious artists can no longer be found on artist communities. And that cannot be explained by the pandemic or similar reasons, such as the economical fallout from the Ukraine/Russia war. It is a development of trolls taking over everywhere and making things miserable for us regular folks. It was bad before, but now, it has become ridiculous!
